I probably should have mentioned that in the article, truth is it really depends on your set up, most of the mysql databases I have used are not set up for transactions.

Honestly if you want to start an open source project for the sake of starting an open source project, its probably not going to work. You're probably not going to want to work on it after awhile and you won't accomplish much. What I would s

Honestly, I think if you need to "Try" to get more twitter followers you are: 1) not interesting enough for people to follow you on their own accord. 2) doing it wrong.

I'm not so sure about legalization(not that I don't think it should happen, but I'm more of the mind is it worth the trouble) Steve Yegge wrote a great Article/Essay on this http://steve-yegge.blogspot.com/2009/04/have-you-ever-legali...

Or you could be me and work close to full time the entire time you are in university so you aren't in ridiculous debt when you leave. (that being said, I would have done much much better in my undergrad if I hadn't of done that)

While I think offering the hosting for such things is a neat angle, I don't know how relevant it is(or how you plan to make money). A default Wordpress install now allows you to search both its theme and plugin directory and install them wi

Currently I don't run a startup nor do I work for a startup(I know, what am I doing on hacker news!), but this is something I think about a lot. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada which has a fairly lively technology community and what seems

Call me naive, but I didn't know there was any mystery surrounding filtering and sorting. I don't see any ambiguity there.

While this is true. In the general case, if your application is required to be secure, its not a choice. Don't get me wrong, usability is very important, but if your application has to be secure(and not having someone look at your password
