One thing you can do is make human readable passwords for sites like Netflix. You can still make it long and save it in the password manager, and it becomes much easier to type out if you need to.

In the 4 or so years I've been using a password manager I can't remember ever having it feel like a burden or require more planning (besides the upfront work). On the other hand, I can't count how many times it has either sav

Shutting down a $30B+ business would be such a ridiculous, yet Google-esque decision. It would also be a huge shame for consumers - the public cloud is already an Oligopoly

Can't be serious? This isn't just "a" AI company, it's the AI company. And it might not exist next week if the board doesn't resign.

By pressuring them to resign. The way things are looking, OpenAI won't exist next week if the board doesn't resign. Everyone will quit and join Sam.

That's not true, it just takes a lot of time and money.

It sounds like a problem at first glance but it isn't. For one, there's an easy solution: overbuild solar. With solar generation that is 2x-3x peak demand, you only need 4 hour storage to have a robust, clean grid with near 0 down

Flip side of that catch is that we're the first generation that can create an emissions free society. It's never been needed before, and it's never been possible before.

The interest and intrigue around LK-99 made science cool. There will be all kinds of positive knock on effects of this - least of which is that we got down to the bottom of LK-99 years before it would've happened if the preprint never

Yet we're all the better for it happening. Even for the original researchers - maybe it would've taken them another 10 years to get to a similar conclusion. Now, they can take the next step and not waste more time.

A number of sites don't allow you to reuse iterations of old passwords (not sure exactly, but perhaps can't have more then 4 repeating chars). So you can't simply append, you have to change the actual password a considerable

You can just append whatever character requirements they have. So instead of "correcthorsebatterystaple", you can do "CorrectHorseBatteryStaple123!". Should meet most requirements. Although I just use a password manager

Sure but under the guise of "long-term profits" you can justify almost anything. For example, you could say "we need to beat climate change, otherwise there won't be any profits on a dead earth".

First reason that comes to mind is you can make much smaller models, which helps with latency, cost and may enable you to run the model locally.

Nothing contradicts that. SpaceX does do this contextually. Once they nailed down the Falcon 9 rocket, the boosters and the Merlin engine, they mostly stopped messing with it and focused on operational excellence. But to get to that point

On a philosophical level everything is an intermediate solution. Casks designed to last 50-100 years are much longer in duration than our solutions for most other things.

The intermediate solutions last for many decades. It's completely sufficient, especially if the alternative is coal plants.

About 200 Germans died in the floods last year - far more than those who died from the cold. And climate change increased both the likeliness and the intensity of the rains. So no, this isn't something rich people will face in 50 years
