No, I would call that being confused about the distinction between law making and law enforcement, which are traditionally very distinct things. It makes sense for there to be leeway due to the scale, automations and high rate of false posi

C programs with undefined behaviour were never conforming or well-working. I stopped reading at the abstract; garbage rant full of contradictions.

The area where I've seen the most homegrown implementations of things like these is HFT, with the caveat it's also designed to be distributed, integrated with isolation systems, start/stop dependency graphs... I once worked f

In most discord groups I see voice is just this weird feature no one uses. Even when people insist on organizing a telecon they usually use zoom, teams, or google meet instead.

Spatial indices simply partition your data in N-dimensional space the same way a binary tree does it in 1-dimensional space. The whole advantage over a static partition is that it will allow you to properly deal with data that is irregularl

Indices are meant to depend on the data yes, not exactly rocket science. Updating an R-tree is log(n) just like any other index.

I live in London. Most residential streets are two-way but there is only space for one car, and driving on the curb is not really an option. The trick to UK streets is that parking actually happens on the street itself, and when driving you

In my experience ray clusters don't scale well and end up costing you more money. You need to run permanent per-user instances etc. What you need is a multi-tenancy shared infrastructure that is elastic.

Static linking is also an optimization barrier. LTO is really a different thing, where you recompile when you link. You could technically do that as part of the dynamic linker too, but I don't think anyone is doing it. There is a surpr

It's funny how people insist on wanting to link everything statically when shared libraries were specifically designed to have a better alternative. Even worse is containers, which has the disadvantage of both.

A lot of British houses have coaxial cable TV in all bedrooms. Ignoring the horrible taste of our forebears that were putting TVs where they don't belong, that does enable carrying gigabit ethernet using MoCA technology.
