Actually if you're talking about the US there are actually laws that prevent small developments; it's not just financials.

The problem with the Boehm GC has always been that it's conservative. If it was something built into the language then you could do much better, but then that language wouldn't be C++.

I wouldn't call hazard pointers garbage collection. Also, I don't think that's necessarily as critical as you suggest. I've been working with performance-critical software for many years and never saw a strong need for g

There are lots of other joins not mentioned there. A popular one with time series is the asof join. There are also literal joins, which are generalizations of adjacent difference.

Isn't this just the traditional way to parse infix operators with LL parsers, which are commonplace?

That's not how you're supposed to use lego. You're supposed to stack them up using the bumpy bits to maintain good alignment -- I wouldn't expect the fit on hand-made snow bricks to be sufficiently tight and the material

I can't say that comment about regular expressions is particularly good -- it isn't even true. (Some variants of regular expressions can implement arbitrary context-free grammars).

Just close PRs that don't meet basic quality criteria, and you will go through them in no time. Oh, but I suppose that's not compatible with the "no one left behind"-type rust manifesto.

If you're building an application that depends heavily on networking for either its performance or reliability, then yes, you are better off rewriting those components and taking on ownership of hardening them to satisfy your requireme

It wasn't sarcastic. Being a C++ developer requires discipline, and that's why hiring is much more selective and specialized.

This isn't a problem in practice because C++ developers are expected to know the rules of their language and respect them.

You can find the pay by role for any of the big tech companies online -- it's all open. Obviously the range I gave goes all the way from junior engineer to CTO, is in USD, and reflects pay at top institutions.
