The main iteration this cycle for the next C++ is contracts. Contracts are all about introducing undefined behaviour if you don't satisfy a precondition. In practice this improves software quality on many levels by clearly defining req

I don't want bounds-checking, so lost interest immediately. This is a step in the wrong direction.

I've never seen so much bad technology quoted in a single article.

Except many people have a policy of ASCII only in source code and therefore would catch it immediately.

I do a lot of different types of systems programming. Only times I actually use GC is to manage resources other than memory.

ICF is important to fold equivalent lambdas as well. All compiled languages virtually use the C model of doing things, often including its FFI.

That's not the problem I pointed out at all. For a trampoline to have no overhead, you need the call to the trampoline to be changed to a call to the underlying function. That's not an optimization that can easily happen due to th

Both the member function and the lambda are their own symbols with their own machine code -- might not even be possible for them to be the same code due to ABI concerns. Even if they're the same code, I don't think it's that

which you can by making the constructor private.

Adding a trampoline means making the calls slower. Even if the lambda were to inline the call, it still would be a completely different location in the executable image.

Design by contract improves software quality instead of lowering it. And it explicitly introduces undefined behaviour aka "memory safety bugs".
854.
▲

Memory safety is a very small fraction of the problems a computer program can have, and replacing them by an immediate shutdown is hardly a very useful improvement on program quality.

The sine polynomial is bad because it's not written in a way that removes redundant multiplications. Those redundant multiplications cannot be removed without fast math because floating-point operations are not associative. There are w

Of course I know that uint16_t+uint16_t gives an int. If you're gonna be programming in C or C++, you need to know these things. And yes, I do agree the fact that I know so much minutiae about those languages is part of the reason why

You would implement the relation type that maps to your data source.

DuckDB processes data lazily, and can easily be integrated with custom synthetic relations. I guess it's still not really designed to work well with infinite relations, but then again neither is SQL really.

How does it compare to DuckDB, which is an Arrow-compatible OLAP SQL database, easy to embed and just plain awesome?

In my career the only people I saw arguing for auto style formatters are people that were simply unable to systematically follow simple rules, and that you're better off without.

Calling the mistake "banal" is already a judgement call. If the requirement is in the license then presumably whoever emitted the license cared about the clause being respected to the letter.
