How do you know they didn't cheat if they got away with it? There's also the aspect of how hard people are actually competing. For a casual game like MtG, people are mostly there for the fun of it, not to win the competition. For

Any kind of competition is adversary; it's just that in most competitions, you'd be disadvantaged if it came to light that you didn't follow good sportmanship.

You need to validate things like syntax upfront so that such things don't make it to review to begin with. I'm not a fan of automatic syntax formatting but you can have some degree of pre-commit checks.

The way I like to do it, is that some projects may have an owner (can only be a single person). The owner is allowed to make changes without review.

The same is true for any software. If you care about reliability, you pin, and carefully test before upgrading.

Every new version of C++ (and sometimes even new versions of C++ compilers) can break code in subtle ways. You should always do extensive testing before upgrading.

I've seen juniors send AI code for review, when I comment on weird things within it, it's just "I don't know, the AI did that"

The real solution is to eliminate build systems where you have to define your own targets. Developers always get it wrong and do it badly.

Except we should aim to reduce the boilerplate through good design, instead of creating more of it on an industrial scale.

That's not quite true; programmers adjust what the business rules should be as they write code for it. Those rules are also very fuzzy and only get defined more formally by the coding process.

consider the C++ std::array, which exists to make arrays behave like normal objects. You can do the same in C by wrapping your array in a struct.

The funny part is that all of these things are easy to achieve as libraries/paradigms. Methods in C, just have function pointers as members. Common in many codebases. Guaranteed tail calls, all the compilers guarantee that function cal

There is no C or C++ ways. It's widely known that every codebase is its own dialect.

Rust forces you to code in the Rust way, while C or C++ let you do whatever you want.

Prop trading firms usually have returns higher than 25%, which is way higher than holding the S&P. You're confusing prop shops and hedge funds.

I don't see how playing a lot of video games prevents being a functional adult. It's no worse than reading a lot of books or watching a lot of TV shows, activities that are not disparaged as much.
