It would be sensible/wonderful for Apple to release a deliberately lighter version of MacOS for these laptops; but their intransigence and (e.g.) willingness to hold the iPad’s OS back year after year suggests they won’t.

Looking at the M5 Max specifically, two thoughts: 1) The price for a 14" model with the most powerful Max processor with 128GB of RAM ($5099 with all else left at the default settings) doesn't seem to have jumped hugely consider

Physiologically, a male getting an erection implies stimulation, not consent. However, more broadly I agree with you that laws protecting animals from harm can often lag behind what some might consider necessary. And despite laws protectin

(Your question doesn't make sense, but) A quick search shows that sex with an animal is definitely illegal in the UK [0] whether it's a male or a female human involved. [0] https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/

All very fair points; I was thinking (but didn't specify) of the step-brother/sister relationship as mentioned in other comments. And just to be clear, I'm not an especial advocate here! I'm just interested as always in

Children and animals can’t consent and are relatively helpless, so must be protected. Real incest leads to a high risk of developmental problems for subsequent children, so a ban makes sense. Logically, none of these arguments apply to “ste

You definitely need to use a mouse with a middle button/scroll wheel, IME. With this, there are presets which work just like other CAD programs e.g. Solidworks. Without it, it’s very difficult to use, but that’s not unique to FreeCAD.

According to the website[0] I’d need 20+ hrs idle time, video recording, Bluetooth, and GPS. I’m being gently snarky, of course, but the goal shouldn’t be an MVP that nerds who are deeply into privacy or FOSS or hate Google can tolerate -

I agree with the previous post that there's hope that there's a convergence point in the not too distant future where consumer hardware can run powerful models. At the moment, the 397Bn Qwen3.5 model (which I assume is what you&#x

I’ve experienced similar problems (not totally sure if they were exactly the “topological naming problem” but certainly similar from the description) in Solidworks many times. Not usually a major problem - just a reworking or removal /

It’s possible for a standard right-handed player to throw a guitar over to that position while playing. Anyway, see the pain on his face; he’s (obvs) just in the middle of an especially aggressive and passionate metal solo.

I agree that HN is not representative, but amongst my definitely-not-tech-aware friends, there's certainty awareness about privacy and social media. This might manifest in avoiding specific apps (for example, I have a friend who refus

What you’re missing is that there’s maybe a bigger crossover between people (and age groups) who use TikTok and people who might prefer it if they weren’t tracked and monetised, than you are imagining. My experience is that TikTok’e algorit

Well, if that's the case, I take (that part of) it back and I'll fire up Mint later to explore. Thanks. It wasn't an obvious option when I tried LibreOffice a few weeks ago, but maybe I should have explored further.

It looks awful and undiscoverable on a standard Mint/Cinnamon install. Anyway, the point is surely that if LibreOffice really wants to attract users from Microsoft Office, then it should do everything possible to optimise that transit

I think we’re in a similar place. I invested enough time over several years to understand the quirks and avoid the frustrations of a certain CAD package (allegedly, possibly Solidworks). And it’s now helpful to remind myself, each time I fi

There’s no way around needing a powerful-enough system to run the model. So you either choose a model that can fit on what you have —i.e. via a small model, or a quantised slightly larger model— or you access more powerful hardware, either

One reason that people use Apple phones is they are seen as a less privacy-invasive option than Android/Google. So it would follow that a valid privacy-respecting third option would potentially help Apple customers as well as Google cu
