Definitely. To get anywhere near profitable you need to have the right people and to be in it for the long haul.

The funny thing about this whole shit show is that could have been me. Before transitioning to tech in SF, I had a career in the entertainment industry down in LA. My buddy pitched me with marketing jargon just like this for a Coachella sty

I'm curious about that too. They must have gotten close or raised all of it, as they actually attempted to have the event.

Yeah there is a bit of a learning curve there. I was doing the same when I first started. It really depends on what you're trying to do, but it really comes down to storing state and data in a central location. If it's a simple co

Yeah, I totally understand what you mean. I felt the same when I first got on AWS. What helped me immensely was taking a job where they had the whole stack on AWS, and I had the chance to learn by doing. Secondly, I signed up for this class

Sure thing. Thanks. I've actually been looking at Snowplow and that seems pretty badass so far. Might work for what I'm looking at.

Ah gotcha. Thanks for the input. I've been looking at Snowplow and it seems really cool.

I think San Francisco is definitely among the top cities. You don't need a degree. It's all about what you can do. What have you done? What skills do you have? When I was looking, I researched a lot of the job openings and looked

I'm doing the same thing. Been working on it for a year now and I'm solo. Not going to lie, it's fucking hard sometimes. It's definitely not for everyone. Some days I want to give up and some days when things come togeth

Sounds pretty cool. What tech is it based on? Just a standard api and db? Also, can I ask how big your company is? A few million records is decent volume.

Whoa. That's badass. Do you pull any info regarding the IP addresses, or is it only the raw logs that you're going through?

Yeah I hear you. I run into the same issue - why pay if you can build it yourself. Thanks for the insight.

I haven't heard of WebTrends before. I'm looking at their website now. Are you self-hosting it? I can't find info on that option.

I'm not sure if I follow you there. What did you mean by, "The bigger the data the more self-hosting will make sense for you, but the less for your customers"?

Good feedback. Yeah I was thinking the same thing - that companies who are self hosting are more likely to be engineering-oriented. Otherwise like you said it's just too much of a pain to handle it yourself. May I ask, why did you self

Yeah. I'm actually asking the question as one of my friends mentioned we should offer a full self hosted option for enterprise. I don't know if we want to go that direction though. Plus I wasn't even sure who is actually self

I've been talking to a friend about it and he mentioned using Elastic Search to build our own setup. Idk if it's the right use case though...

Yeah I've been looking at Piwik. What do you think so far? The only aspect I didn't like was it was PHP. Not really my strong language - if I wanted to customize it.

Yeah I've been there too. I actually had that realization while in college. I saw my friends a couple years older than me who were graduating, but could not find jobs, and were going no where. It took me awhile, but you need to figure
