I don't think it is unheard of to have a judge interpret the intention of a law.

My guess: Big corporations often have more potential to outsource, and are better known, and have a stronger PR and legal department. These traits give them a much better negotiation position (don't remember that governments profit fro

From the wiki page, I am led to believe that he proved a weaker result, being that if there are cycles of period three then there are cycles of every period (which is not the period three implies chaos result). See the second paragraph in

I have replaced the battery and the HDD by an SSD in two old thinkpads, and they work very well. In particular, they have a nice key layout and type a lot better than my 1600 dollar Dell XPS, which is more important to me than a full HD scr

As an introvert, visibility has always been an issue for me. Last week I had a big task for which I put in well over 10 hours a day. When people see it's done sooner than expected they just assume that is was easier. Meanwhile, other p

I sometimes work remotely, but most days I wasn't very productive. This is partially my own fault for not having a dedicated room to work in (so I sit in the living room, which is full of distractions). But it's also an infrastruc

You can basically make your own kind of 'near misses' with recurrent relations. If you have a recurrent relation of the type f(n + 1) = a * f(n) + b * f(n - 1), you (almost always) get a solution of the form f(n) = c * alpha^n + d

Common misconception, but that graph does not explain the Dunning-Kruger effect. It's actually more like a linear curve, it's just a little flatter than the graph of y = x. The Dunning-Kruger effect is that the best people under

Absolutely awesome! Some faces seem to have some weird horizontal asymmetry, though (I'm not saying that people are perfectly symmetric, but in these pictures the two halves of the face seem to belong to different people).

Some situations are easier to rationalize when you are an outsider. I think many people were sceptical of Theranos. Maybe Elizabeth Holmes was charismatic enough to overcome scepsis in most people. It is baffling that she managed to become

I like the commandline as well, but most of my coworkers are happy using a git GUI, and I can see why: 1. Most GUI's give you an overview of the changes before committing. 2. Most GUI's let you commit and push in one go, an

Personally, I think using git from the commandline is too complicated for the purpose it serves in most companies. Using a git GUI works quite well for people inexperienced with git.

I recently set up a RPi with Pi-hole, only to find out that my ISP gave me a router that prevents you from using another DNS server. I can still use the Pi-hole, but I have to set up the DNS manually for every device. Quite a pain in the as

Disagree. I dislike coding at work, because it's boring infrastructure stuff I have to code. I am 26, I work 32 hours a week and work pressure is very low and there's just no way I'm burning out. A lot of coding is just borin

To show equivalence, you should show that any state machine can be implemented as a coroutine and vice versa. The author here implements one example with coroutines and with a state machine, which shows exactly nothing. (As a metaphore, it&

Well, Opera is a good browser that no-one uses, so it can't be just that. Tbh UX just isn't Microsofts strong suite (although I really like Windows 10).
