Or you could look at it as a form of addiction similar to how WOW and other MMORPG games have you do mundane tasks to get a reward which is in and of itself meaningless. The more they can get you to read articles the more it benefits them.

That's a point most people don't seem to remember. I can see what Google has on me, for the most part at any rate, and opt to destroy it. Contrast that with FB and I really have no clue what data they have on me.

Talk about nitpicking. You are clearly missing the point here. These videos are not aimed to tell everyone everything there is to know about a topic. They are there to lay the basics or spark some interest after which the person should go o

If this would be the case then why does every startup ask for an email address to let people know when the product is ready? It's really no different. If you are genuinely interested in something you will chomp at the bit to access it. I fo

I can't remember the last time a schema I made in week 1 was similar to the schema in week 4. That alone is why I made that statement. Modifying schemes requires modifying code all over the place that relies on it. The majority of the time,

I actually tend to believe many developers realize that data in a relation DB is not the only way to go about things. Having spent my entire adult life in a SQL bubble it's refreshing to have all these alternative tools now that can do more

I don't really quite get what point you are making here. Are you saying that the innovation today owes more to the innovation of the mid-nineties? Are you saying that any innovation now with respect to AJAX and JS does not make your life be

Is it legal and/or feasible to start a Kickstarter project to help fund these developers' legal costs? Not sure how it could be distributed but if they could somehow pool together it would make for a pretty awesome stand. I know I'd gladly

This seems like a desperate move. I'm not aware of the timelines but it seems ridiculous that Paypal just sat around knowing their "secrets" were taken to Google and hoped the person(s) that took them would remove all traces and not divulge

I know what you mean. I've often shied away from using REST simply because I like to setup the APIs as classes and use the classes directly in my internal code usage. REST breaks that for me, not only because the paradigm is different, but

RESTful APIs can be a pain when you have to mashup different APIs, though. The amount of calls you end up having to do can be quite a lot. From a backend standpoint it's not that bad if you cache, but from a consumer standpoint I have to ge

I see this argument/question come up all the time in a variety of different contexts. Inevitably it boils down to some form of "this company/site/person is taking away my privacy!" Typically this stems from the belief that a particular prac

Couldn't they just strap solar panels all over the surface or on top of the wind mills to mitigate some of the inefficiencies? On a related note, whatever happened to the spray-on solar material using nanotechnology?

It's probably because most people have never made something elegant with PHP. The language is always a means to an end. It, in and of itself, will not make you a better developer. It can do a lot of work for you (frameworks) and make esoter
