That Reuters article is misleadingly worded. The Stephen Thaler case in question is because Thaler tried to register the AI itself as the author of the copyright, not that he tried to register the output for copyright under his own name. h

This is a common misreading of the law. AI cannot hold authorship of code, but no ruling has claimed so far that ai output itself can't be copyrighted (that I know of)

Thank you for that link, that's super interesting! It looks like it's actually an architectural vulnerability in modern fTPMs, and considered out of scope by both Intel and AMD. So that's a reliable way to break attestation o

That's fair, although aren't most TPMs nowadays fTPMs? No interceptable communication that way.

There isn't a GUI that i know of, but the files are very basic text files that don't really need much of a GUI. Creating a service and setting it's timer is maybe 10 lines total. For monitoring the services and seeing how lon

I'm not sure you can provide an objective (i.e way to show that it is absurd) means of explaining how an AI researcher is making the world a worse place. It's going to come down to disagreeing about some axiom like "is ASI ra

I would say the user task scheduling is one of the things that linux actually does better then windows! (well, nowadays the list is a lot longer but pre windows 11 it was a few). Systemd services are really simple and quite easy to make, an

How do you explain the data contradicting this? I believe that your bank did this but the data seems to show otherwise.

Reading the linked Court of Appeals document in that post, the question is posted in the opening: "Can a non-human machine be an author under the Copyright Act of 1976?", which it then answers as no. It doesn't mention elsewh

This is a misreading of the law. Court cases say that AI cannot own copyright, not that AI output cannot be copyrighted.

I agree! But that's exactly my point: 1 type of machine is ok, another isn't, so it is not just a matter of all machines make derivative work. To draw the line more carefully is an open question. I would be surprised if a machine

Oh no, the solution is not simple at all! The _reasons_ behind why we've gotten to where we are, however, are simple. Politicians get yelled at, they want to fix this, and they take a simple solution that has seriously bad side effects

Honestly the reason seems quite obvious to me. Most people are getting seriously concerned about how the internet affects children. It's as simple as that. Children are getting cyberbullied and predated on while on platforms like Roblo

> AI is a more complex machine, but still a machine. If you feed somebody'd work into a machine, what comes out is a derivative work. I'm not sure that's true, legally speaking. If you fed it into a PRNG, the output seems

Are any of the people hosting these websites present in California? I would guess that they must, otherwise it would have to be a federal trial, but i have no idea.

That's one of the intended uses of prediction markets! Although much like cryptocurrency arbitrage i assume the margins are small and will quickly be eaten by bigger fish.

Not by much, plus the volume is much lower on prediction markets, so people with large pockets who happen to be in power and are capable of doing big moves like this would make more money on the oil futures.

In practice it is protected, but as the law is written it's hard to say how or why. Pure pornography with penetrative sex, by any reasonable definition, "depicts or describes, in a patently offensive way, sexual conduct" and

Can you give a list of high quality alternatives? Morally speaking i would put China on par with the US if not worse (due to their ongoing Uyghur genocide). I will check out Qwen3 but would be interested in others.
