Well, yes, it’s a great reason not to publish there, but only if you can afford not to do so. Amazon dominates the e-book market.

When you own such a large portion of the ebook sales market, it very much could be considered predatory (bordering on monopolistic). Larger authors are not compelled to agree to these terms sure, but if you’re a smaller publisher or author

They should just drop the bracketing entirely and give 70% to the authors in all cases, instead of the continued predatory gouging you’re suggesting.

Well... yes, but also no. I bring up the plantation of Ulster because it has the most direct comparison to more recent colonization efforts; that makes it easy to draw a nice line in the sand saying "this is when it happened". Wit

It's also misleading to cite 1801 as the date of Ireland becoming a colony. Ireland was pretty much the prototype for the rest of Britain's overseas colonies, starting with the plantations of Ulster in the 1600s[1]. [1]: https:&#

I like using it as a quick diagnostic to figure out if a given window is running natively or under Xwayland. If the eyes follow your mouse when you hover over the window, it’s still using Xwayland, if they don’t move, it’s a native Wayland

They’re not sovereign states though. Having a football team doesn’t make something a country, I hope you realise how ridiculous that sounds. And that last sentence is an extremely revisionist view of British history.

It doesn’t even take both agreeing necessarily. In many cases just either one of the EU or the US legislating something is sufficient financial incentive to follow the same rule globally.
