If you are able to invest some time I highly recommend you take a look at Haskell or OCaml. I used to think strong typing was something stupid, inconvenient, etc. Then I started learning Haskell and realized I didn't hate strong typing, I j

Oh, I agree that not trusting information on the internet is the sensible default. However, there are plenty of people who will be copying his examples directly without any investigation. Some will probably post the exact same stuff on thei

This likely because a lot of people (the majority?), like me, find VLC to "Just Work" (TM) and don't find any reason to sign up for the forums. I try and make it a point to thank authors of open source software I use, but often times I don'

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "why do we need Twitter?". While I consider it a useless service there are obviously a huge amount of people in disagreement with me, which would imply that it serves some purpose. What I am saying is "W

I disagree with their assessment that replacing the "known-bad" model with a "known-good" model means Intel expects to become the sole gatekeeper of what software is allowed to run. This is quite obviously infeasible and I'm sure Intel know

I've been busy learning Haskell on and off between classes since December. And the main points I noticed so far are: tl;dr version: 1) It's a pretty language. 2) It's fast. 3) Static typing (and its optional companion "formal verification")

More actively paying attention to my environment is something I have been trying to teach myself as well. Not much success so far. As far as the writing is concerned, it was engaging enough to keep me interested until the end. Which is more
