Intuitively I'd guess that they're very different audiences. I'm sort of near the type of person who would shell out for ease-of-use stuff like the same theme across editors, but also the type of person who would even want th

Student debt isn't quite like other debts though, as you're never required to pay instalments if you don't have the means, and iirc you are also never forced to pay instalments that are more than 10% or so of your income.

I'm very much in your camp, so to speak, but I downvoted some of the upthread comments because I think they are responding to something that wasn't really said. There's a massive difference between an observation and a judgme

I like this comment on the forums: > “Hey, what did you do over Christmas?” > me: “I drank too much and tried to read a book” > Jose Valim: “I rewrote my language’s kernel to afford tensorflow-like operations for efficient ML opera

Oban is enough of a standard in the community that it doesn't need any plugging. Very odd comment to pounce on.

Do you know how to directly 'talk' to the CPU or GPU? Do you build everything from source? Are you comfortable writing assembly? Have you recently soldered shit or built a PC from scratch?

Your complaints seem to boil down to "get off my lawn" and it's rather tedious. what do you get out of it other than a feeling of superiority?

"Everyone" will bang their drums and probably not do anything substantial. That's why China feels okay doubling down.

I'm curious what leads to having that many meetings a week. For me, even just one meeting on a given day exhausts me, and while the wfh is nice, it's led to many more 'meetings', whether just calls or proper zoom meetups

It's good to see articles, but they don't amount to much if it doesn't actually change things. The impression I get is that China is important enough to the economic bottom-line that nobody, whether Apple or Hollywood, will g

I don't consider myself a "5% programmer", but I'd definitely agree that one of the big measures of my improvement as programmer had to do with my ability to quickly figure out how a system works, and my ability to manag

Bit of a tangent, but I can highly recommend the "Thinking Elixir" podcast. The other ones are nice too, but this one starts with general Elixir community updates and has been great for me to catch up on what's new, similar t

Nice! does it work with .leex files for LiveView, or templates inside a LiveView .ex module? That's the biggest small issue I'm running into day to day.

I do feel that in the US, the workplace has a much stronger weight, and often plays a much bigger role in the employee's life. I can see how that could lead to either very explicit work/life separation, or a blurring of the two.

Hah, much as the host occasionally annoys me with his interrupts, I can't recommend this podcast enough! Honestly, my only real complaint is the audio levels of the various guests. It seems like they're not normalized(?) enough so

From what I remember when I read it, the book (intentionally?) felt kind of 'jazzy'. No matter how hard I try, I can't really like jazz beyond the 'smooth jazz' muzak I might occasionally have on in the background.

Same for me. Re-reading some of the books as an adult made me appreciate them more though. The one exception was The Chosen. That book was just awesome.

The distinction between 'SQL' and 'NoSQL' has made less and less sense over time. I can add a JSONB column to my Postgres database and use SQL to query that data, index it, etc. So is that NoSQL or SQL? And while I'

I suppose switching depends in part on how much work that would be. That said, I tend to pick Postgres as a default because using JSONB columns I can get the benefits of 'NoSQL' and switch over to 'SQL' while staying wit
