I don't know your age, but I've been rather worried about the fact that almost all my < 30 years old friends seem to be some degree of 'doomer'. Whether it's climate, the economy (and the prospects of retirement)

I can't answer your questions, but I'll add this: 1. FB owning both Instagram and WhatsApp means that it's almost impossibly for me to escape their grasp as a 'regular person'. 2. even avoiding FB itself is difficul

I'm inclined to believe Microsoft still doesn't quite has the (understandably challenged) dominance it once had, but your comment gives me pause. Perhaps its stranglehold is still worth challenging? EDIT: Playing fast and loose, m

Also, much as I'd like to, I can't get past Scott Adams 'personal persona'. It ruined Dilbert for me. Perhaps it shouldn't, but it did.

Wow. that's the weirdest 'flag' I've encountered on HN yet. While perhaps a content warning would've been nice, learning that apparently bears eat cubs was a very surprising thing for me to learn, and videos of it e

They do? I didn't know that! I've learned that cats will do this (childhood almost-trauma) but it's interesting that bears would do this too.

I'd say, with the utmost respect for Larson, that this isn't so much one you're too dumb to get as it is a rare flub in his impressive oeuvre! For me this comic combined with the general limitations of what he does are what m

For me Gary Larson is a close second to Watterson. That said, this is probably one of my favorite Far Side comics and there's a ton more that are just as great: https://external-content.duckduckgo.com/iu/?u=https%3

At least over here in NL, while hospitals are not over-taxed anymore, those who work in them really need a break.

Yeah, Trump strikes me as the kind of person who would protect himself diligently regardless of what his public stance might be. I might be wrong about this, but isn't he also known to be somewhat of a 'clean freak'?

Oh yeah, it's not a binary thing. That said, in the case of craftsmen and their apprentices, I think the relationship was much less cold and transactional than, say, my startup friends who got a bunch of interns as cheap labor. At time

I think the principles underlying FOSS are found everywhere. It's just that the idea of 'markets' and 'transactions' being the ubiquitous thing has infected our thinking.

Whatever one might think of socialism, and I really don't mean to start a political discussion here, FOSS is an example for me that shows that at the very least we're not purely driven by competition.
