I imagine reducing emissions by 20% tomorrow buys us a bit more time. Another decade of R&D… Wouldn’t it be better to be talking about 2060 instead of 2050? The longer we do “nothing”, the more miracles we need.

Wow, another crazy silly idea that requires huge behavior change. Did you know there are only 8500 coal power plants in the entire world, and they produce 20% of CO2 emissions? In fact it’s only a subset of those that are really bad. https

"Our cod stocks are not in great shape," Yeah, cod were destroyed decades ago so now we can’t build wind turbines: “In 1992, Northern Cod populations fell to 1% of historical levels, due in large part to decades of overfishing” h

More Americans died during the Civil War. Life expectancy has increased, and will continue to increase, because of science. Antibiotics only started appearing in the 1940s, for example. Jimmy Carter survived cancer in his 90’s. That likely

“Wouldn’t it be cool” and “Wouldn’t it be easier“ Well, it would be cool to get more real-time feedback, where possible. And sure, somethings will be easier when blood is drawn. So, “yes” to both questions

“Sheer expansive distance between cities…” Perhaps we should elaborate? If a train leaves city A traveling at 220 mph towards city B… How far are we talking before we are too far away to travel by HSR in say, 4 hours?

Not this argument AGAIN. “Why would anyone want to build a HSR from NYC to Los Angeles”. “Don’t you know the western US is sparse?”. What about the rest of America? There’s always someone who comes and tells us America is sparse so we don’

Sounds like we need computer languages that are better at preventing bugs. Throw in a little static analysis and AI assistants become more useful. Type inference, pure functions, functional, assertions, … Maybe start with Haskell?
