What does work contracts say about work location? Especially for those that were hired during the pandemic or in a remote role.

Yeah, but not until 2027 or so it seems, and then you’ll have to drag around an ic engine as well. Seems a bit of a waste for a car with that much battery range. My dad just bought the bZ4x, I’m not particularly impressed, but that’s just m

The blog didn’t give me much. But the HN commentary on books is always such a great inspiration for getting new reading ideas. Thanks!

I beg to differ. iMessage is definitely quite common in Europe as well.

Oh wow, I didn’t know you could say that. I should have told the taxi driver this when he said my card was declined (the reader was broken, so he had to use his phone with the Square dongle). I ended up having to use my other (debit) card,

“Forced” to use Google Maps in the car because it’s on the big screen, and recently I’ve been disappointed by how bad it is at navigation in the Bay area, taking me down pothole and slow streets with lots of turns. Even taking me to crossin

The worst injury is blindness or partial blindness (happens to about 10-20 people every new years celebration in Norway)… accidents can happen, but fireworks in the hands of drunk people is a bad combination.

Can’t you just do a chargeback on the next subscription charge? If enough people do that, the card issuer will probably hit them with fines of some sort.

Ha, that’s interesting. I used to TA parts of that course; I had to learn Simula and Demos (a simulation library). If I recall correctly it was the first run of the course, and I had to develop some of the labs.

Funny to see this and other comments like it today. I’m European, and just back from an enjoyable day at the Kennedy Space Center. NASA certainly knows how to promote their space program. Got to see the launch of 56 starlink satellites. And

Unrelated question. Anyone know if it would be difficult to write a SwiftUI “compiler” to non-Mac architectures, including wasm? (I’m not a ui developer). I mean, I realize it is probably non-trivial, like most cross-platform ui, but I have

I see this argument a lot, but error handling is also code that you probably want to read. Especially if you are debugging a problem. My experience is that exposing the error handling logic makes this easier. But I also like John Ousterhout

Copilot is pretty good at recognizing and generating the error check ; it will even propose error messages for you. Clearly you may want to change it to your specific case. So I don’t think dev time will be significantly slower. My experien

Yes, I absolutely agree with this. I think there is great value in returning early on error; think of them as guards checking that you have the values you need for the next logic step. In the original version you may have to read the whole

I believe there is a vet check for this. So while the compiler won’t stop you from ignoring errors, it will tell you that you aren’t checking an error. Yes, you can ignore the error with _, but then it isn’t accidental.

I agree with the article that sequence diagrams are great, but I’ve also used state diagrams (not the formal kind from UML) a fair bit for sketching state transitions.

I’m not so sure that “I can choose” to stay in the walled garden, if, for example, Spotify decides to only be available through another App Store that I don’t consider trustworthy.

You make some good points about the examples visibility in the docs. I suggest that you write up an issue on Go’s issue tracker.

It wasn’t so clear from the article, but I assume they’re using images from Google. Don’t France have water usage meters? Seems like the main reason for taxation is to save water, and taxing actual water use seems more reasonable.

I agree. This was more amazing than I had expected upfront. I can envision myself using this for developing code as well, but I think I will have a hard time convincing my boss…

I was thinking the same; it feels the acceptance rate is a bit low, but maybe not… I wonder what the numbers are for Copilot?
