My NeoVim broke so often I came to realize a product that has 50 random people working on the core and various plugins is not going to make a stable product that would work for years. After all, there is no consistent testing as a whole pro

What's the state of Fleet at this moment? I haven't been following it since I've tried a few years ago and looked it was still at its early stage then. Is JetBrains aiming to replace IntelliJ with it at some point or it would

It's interesting someone gets irritated when other people don't give you free food, not to mention teach them how food should be free.

Which is good if you want to have full support of the docker ecosystem as some containers don't support ARM.

Vultr. Good thing about Vultr is they also have additional block storage that is HDD based which is far cheaper than NVMe based when all you want is space and not speed.

You're just over generalizing it. You would burn time dealing with the way of the big 3 instead of learning what you're using and if you ever want to migrate out, you'll be burning more time than you may be able to afford.

How do you handle hardware failures or screw ups for the server to go offline? When I saw one of my server not coming back up at home for some reason on a reboot, I realized I needed spare hardware to reliably operate them. I can't let

How is running a database hard? It is more annoying to receive alerts from AWS of expiring certificates and suddenly they start charging for extended support when the version goes EOL on their definition and having have to deal with them. A

Don't underestimate the downside of using those "heaps of services". It was funny to see someone using RDS and was warned of expiring CA certificate and AWS suddenly charging for extended support because the version they were

I used to like Linode, until I started using zfs. Their backup is not at a block level just because they can optimize it for their benefit which limits the partition be formatted only in unencrypted ext3 or ext4 to be able to use their back

What do you use Linux for? Predictable release cycle is already worth it for server use and also for those who need commercial support. And zfs is too good to miss and Ubuntu has supported it for very easy use for quite a while. And it feel

How can you be thankful to a lack of a ecosystem. BSD now has less room in the server use cases, where it should shine, without being able to use Docker at all.

Maybe it's time that basement servers should be the norm for self hosters. I bought a HardKermel x64 servers and happy that I have no ToS to worry about. I can send encrypted back ups to utilize any cloud out there without a concern. C

Many people, especially in Japan don't realize not investing and simply saving means they're actually investing in their own country long term, which for Japan, doesn't look like a smart strategy at this point.
