People are constantly looking for definite tendencies and magic patterns so they can abdicate situational awareness and critical thinking. We observe that fast delivery has often correlated with success in software and we infer that fast de

The paradigm I'm alluding to is eager to lazy, not 2 to 3. E.g. dict.items() in v3 works like dict.iteritems() in v2.

If everyone starts favoring lazy imports with not much fuss then it means that lazy should have been the default behavior and eager is the keyword we're missing. This isn't the first time Python revisits this paradigm. Many cons

The word "ineffable" is a common one in the literature that documents altered states of consciousness for good reasons. You must be an initiate. Once you've dabbled in spiritual contemplation, breathwork, or psychedelic journ

Anyone who was part of the HN/YCombinator scene at the time PG wrote that piece (and many years later) would know what the title alludes to. Why would it ruin this article's credibility?

If the language is limited to only single and shallow inheritance, then super() becomes a syntactic convenience that saves everyone the burden of spelling out the inheriting class. But in Python, even if your code emulates these constraints

If I had but one design pattern I would just LOVE to see disappear from Python, it's the need for super(). Don't get me wrong, super() is a clever piece of engineering, but if your code actually needs what it's useful for (

The tech equivalent would be having companies line up to meet you, so that you can perform some particular upgrade of their system. The exact same each time. Then having every one of them praising and thanking you profusely after. Hell yeah

I likely misunderstood the article or inferred the wrong thing. The study is indeed very focused on the effects of psilocin/psilocybin. The monthly spacing of doses threw me in a different trajectory.

Two things. First, please correct me if I'm wrong, but is it possible that the article made a mistake either in the dosages or the substance that was administered? It calls 5mg/kg of psilocybin a low dose. To me, this is an insane

Memoization is deterministic caching, meaning that the structure is a perfect stand-in for a deterministic function. The "determinism" of the function itself is relative to some agreed upon lifespan, during which if you feed it

The key difference between caching and memoization is not global shared state, it's determinism. That's why the latter mostly applies locally. In that sense, they're only semantically different. Data in a cache can be expecte

No. Even in France and beyond (i.e. outside of Quebec) you could hear "dépanne-moi", meaning "help me out (with money)". Dépanneur as convenience store could be a Quebec thing.
