I am working on cognitive behavioral therapy-based software that aims to fix unhelpful thinking and behavior. It is like Joyable, but for more general thought patterns. I believe this can at least help people with their inner lives -- which

Applications that use OSC are generally running on the same machine or a local network that you have control over. You shouldn't drop packets on single machine unless you are sending a lot of them and run out of buffer. Buffer size is

It is also far more family friendly. It is almost impossible for someone with a family to do YC Core without substantial savings and financial stability. YC Fellowship adds an additional stepping stone. No idea if this was intentional, but

It seems like the setup I use is pretty similar to Om Next, but via independent libraries. I am looking forward to seeing the finished Om Next to compare. ClojureScript is shaping up to be a fantastic way to program browser-based applicatio

I don't think that is cynical. :) Cargo culting seems very prevalent in the current startup culture -- especially in those that are "playing startup". These founders see all of these external things that startups do and assum

Probably not enough to matter. Even if it halved the startup time it would still be too slow for the tasks it is too slow for. Note: Clojure itself performs fine, I am just talking about the startup time. That being said, I use Clojure for

I have done some programming in these and they are definitely more suited to the applications that their creators had in mind. I wouldn't want to do general purpose programming in them -- at least as they exist currently.

Also check out datalog. Datomic is a database that uses it as its query language -- it is really nice to work with.

A lot of people creating multimedia works use visual programming languages that have dataflow models. Some that are fairly mature projects: vvvv - https://vvvv.org/ Puredata - https://cycling74.com/products&

You state this as fact. Link to credible science saying that it is true. This is like saying we have to completely understand how birds fly before we can make planes, or how fish swim before making submarines. Or how muscles cause movement

Yeah... that is one of the really unfortunate lock-ins with AWS. Hopefully they will add data export to their "Snowball" product, but they don't really have a lot of incentive to.

It is very common (especially as you get older) to mix up names for people that are in the same mental category while you are speaking. It isn't necessarily thoughtlessness. Sometimes our brains just don't work quite right.

It is really the pop-up ads and ones that auto-play audio or have any kind of animation that are terrible. Also the sites that make you click through a bunch of pages to read an article. I don't mind the rest. I thought it might be fun

You can also use Scala and Clojure (and really, anything that runs on the JVM -- but those are the only I've used). We're doing this for some things in production and it has worked well.

What separates YCR from a thing like Bell Labs? Bell Labs has produced a lot of great research and many researchers have had fruitful careers there and after. Why can't YCR be the same?

Do you think the people that have signed up for YCR haven't considered the career risks? It seems like anyone seriously interested in being a career researcher would know how unforgiving and competitive mainstream academia is.
