Maybe it's just me that noticed or felt this, but often times a service or product builds up a lot of hype and ends up being vaporware. Diaspora got mainstream attention when Zuckerberg donated money to them and when they complained at the

Nintendo is slowly opening up to indies especially on the EShop with games like this: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/WQaA7w-yvWTrSVOJ9x5w-I... They generally only take more famous titles IIRC, but saying they hate indies is not tru

   >A hosted IRC service seems like a bad idea overall I understand, but it's a lot more convenient for my less tech-savvy friends than a bouncer, I would think.

Is IRC safe? I have a channel as my main form of communication with friends. Some people do local logging but I know who everyone is. Ironically I plan to use IRCcloud or IRCanywhere. Self hosting of online tools should be made much easier.

It seems companies other than people like 37signals and indie game studios don't want to be small and independent? I could be wrong about this analysis, but I find the aquihire trend somewhat depressing.

Vine is a good idea and doesn't really infringe on your privacy so I approve of it. Pinterest is just pointless.

I, and I think most of us here, know of this concept, but I'd say you articulated it well. If a company needs to be semi-evil, being upfront may help them.

    1. Many people like the minimalism of IRC. 2. Being a standard open protocol makes IRC better than any alternative anyway. Can you use Hipchat on a graphing calculator? You can use IRC on one. Though I love IRC, I do wish it has some featur

One of the few cool things of the Mac/iOS community is how active everyone is. iOS users download/buy/actually use apps even if they're niche. Readers of marco.org and daringfireball pay attention to these sponsorship posts, I'd assume.

I learned not much new from this. People have made this claim for years. The author isn't some visionary for figuring this out, and I assume he doesn't think he is. The point about financial benefit was interesting, however.
