I remember using the mouse a lot in MC, for activating the Fx actions, the command history and some dialogs (...I think in the virtual consoles you needed something called gpm to make it work, uff. But in X works, too).

there were several libs, mostly shareware, that extended the list of supported resolutions with VESA & VGA-modeX ones. I used it a lot of times. Nice days.
