Sounds lovely -- if you want to exclude every medium to high performing IC from considering your posting. I don't know any IC's at my company that make less than 120k. (In fact I believe the starting salary for college grads is ri

Access to good roads is among the very few things that is so vastly important to the general prosperity of the population that leaving them to private companies would do more harm than good. As the dude I overhead in some backcountry bar in

Trying again with timers internal to the code (previously used `time node ray.js`), initial go is 190ms, then 170ms, 160ms, and after that hovers around 140-150ms for the remaining 97 runs. If I remove the FS operations it's instead 16

What does animal rights activism to the point of that level of government interest look like? Linked article didn't go into any details on the matter at hand.

Yes, if you dig around V8 performance profiles you'll see some massive "Optimizing Code" blocks that appear at the bottom of a frequently-hit routine once, then subsequent calls to that same routine will run faster. That bein

nodejs outshadows all of these[1] (though rust is closer than I expected), yet is not included. I wonder why... it seems like the fact that JS is wildly popular is some sort of dirty secret in the industry. [1]: https://pkgstats.

You may be happy to learn that in modern Node, the 3200x2400 example which used to take 6.8 seconds now runs in 0.25 seconds. I unfortunately don't have a clojure setupt to compare against.

Same for computer science, no? Or anything really... ideas are cheap, seeing the bigger picture and successfully integrating with it is difficult.

What's interesting here is that "good different, different good" is both completely meaningless, and also the exact argument that comes up on HN whenever firefox is brought up as an alternative to chromium browsers.

Yep, proof of storage is the only way forward as far as I'm concerned. At least of the currently available options. But they aren't great for representing a ledger. Some sort of hybrid is needed.

This is what Web3 is supposed to be. "Want to store some data? Just pay the market rate for data storage!" Of course they chose the most expensive and unwieldy data storage mechanism imaginable. Inb4 "but X chain is so cheap!

The "free ad-supported television" offerings are actually pretty decent. It's a first-party software profit-center, so the teams making them have every incentive and capability to give them a halfway decent UX. Then on the fl
