Really interesting read as an outsider. A lot of inside baseball, but my impression is that a ton of the indirect costs do fund the institution building that has happened at universities. This creates a cycle of more = more as indirect cost

I mean, the ONE thing I want is when I am writing an email to coordinate a meeting and it says "how about tomorrow at 1:00" in the email body, that I can reply with a meeting and the time is set for tomorrow at 1:00 automatically?

Lol. My public school sent 10% of its senior class to ivy league schools last year. I'll take it. Not all of them are inner city hell holes.

This is the way. Submitting an application is useless. We've reverted back to networking for jobs. You have to connect with actual humans, as nobody is going to wade through 5k resumes and pick yours out no matter how good it is...

On #2, you surely aren't familiar with a lot of locations in US! I live in New England. <$1M home. $18K property taxes. I don't live on coast or in hurricane area, so insurance is relatively cheap at $3k or so....

Yes but the algorithm also is that they take 5% of your assets each year. So if you've saved $1M (not much for a $200K a year couple in their 50s), that's $50K a year out the door.

Lol. Tell that to insurance companies, which are regulated by the states. they LOVE it, as they have the scale to deal with a 50 state bureaucracy. Small government favors huge business.

The DSNY budget is $1.9B. How much should you invest to make the right decision, when you are radically changing the operations of the organization and the daily fabric of city life for millions of people?

Exactly!!! This is an interviewer issue. You should be guiding them. Get the answers for each scenario out of both sets of interviewees and see if they are facile enough to roll with it. Doing a one shot "quiz" is not that reveali

Love to see this - a miracle! We used it to partially homeschool a kid in math, then he graduated to SAT prep for himself, etc. Totally free. What a gift to the world.

Totally false. I've been on ACA silver plans and all expense paid corporate plans. At the end of the day the true costs are pretty equivalent - $20K for a family of 4 per year in cash going to insurance/healthcare. With ACA, that

Beautiful reply. #3 can be pushed by aggressive negotiators, but requires "like for like" schools to make a mistake. Then you can leverage one school to ask for more money from another.
