The title also mentions IDEs. Haven't things termed "IDEs" always been heavier than Emacs, even back then?

Please DON'T use the threads. As of 2018 it has many data races ( https://nullprogram.com/blog/2018/05/31/ ), and resultant bugs will be a nightmare to track down. The Emacs community has always got

That's a great explanation, you have quite the way with words! I'd add that it isn't only about preferences. Obviously if it works equally well either way, you save time and energy by just adapting yourself to your tools and

For those still on 28, `crux-rename-file-and-buffer` does the same thing ( https://github.com/bbatsov/crux ). I've been using it for half a decade at this point.

Not sure why you're getting downvotes, most of what you say makes sense. Although I'm not following that "it matters who chooses your rulers". To be very naive, as long as the set of voters includes me, my wishes will

The signature works fine over HTTP/FTP because it needs to be combined with a public key you already have (e.g. a distro package manager will already have the public key for all the packages), or a public key you will go get from a dif

This sort of thing is not as much an issue as you'd think, because at least in Linux world, most automated downloads will compare the SHA256 sum with a reference sum retrieved from a HTTPS site (there you go!), if not the GPG signature

It sounds like you're content letting anecdotes stand in for data. I'm not. See, a policy can have the intended effect on society as a whole even if there are plenty of anecdotes about situations where it doesn't. So the exi

I buy that smaller democracies could work better in many ways, provided they enjoy a stable peace with their neighbors. If a nation of 10M people lets a decision be made by the EU, that means the electorate for that decision goes from 10M p

The problem in this approach is that even people who think they judge only on merits rarely do. If it was that easy, our laws would all be this sort of thing. It's easy to trust people to counter biases they know they have. Quotas e

Still messing with the intent, so you'd still need the company lawyers to stay on top of this arrangement and double-check regularly that your bases are covered and you can't be slammed in some way. Oh and you'd need to be s

You must know this claim of yours can trigger a huge discussion. If you want to discuss it in good faith, you must write more, not toss in a one-sentence slogan like a grenade and hope it gets people to spend a ton of effort in response.

This is one law, not a whole policy. The law has only to do with corporate boards and doesn't imply all is OK with the rest.

Problem is you presumably care about the company's success, so you don't want to take such risks messing with the intent of the law.

Sorting by frequency/recency looks like the culprit. You often type 'for' and select forums.overclockers.co.uk, so the engine takes that into account and prioritizes that candidate, but you haven't done the same when ty

Yes, my trick is to avoid the global search and go for a specific search, e.g. on the iPhone I go to the apps library and only then swipe down to get the search. That search is for apps only, so it's instant & responsive.

Thank you for engaging with me. I have two questions. 1. "No one has any idea how to create X now" does not lead to "Imminent creation of X is very unlikely to be true". Right? 2. You can always assign probabilities.
