I don't mind the funding, but inclusion in a journal dresses it up with the blessing of a Scientific Result if the news ever cite it. We could have a separate kind of journal for not-yet-reproduced results, and somehow ensure that the

Except it's not a service that costs much money to run, so much as it is a giant silo exploiting the fact that lots of video is uploaded there. Don't you remember YouTube in 2005 before Google's purchase? It made ends meet

Right?! That'd be the first thing on my agenda if I wanted to write an article with that title. I'll choose to believe the writers didn't especially have an interest, they were just paid to write.

If you expect perfect factual accuracy from your teachers, yeah. On the flip side, they don't have the curse of knowledge yet i.e. it's still fresh in their mind what was difficult in the beginning, so they can probably explain v

You misunderstand AGI. AGI won't be controllable, it'd be like ants building a fence around a human thinking it'll keep him in.

Thank you. Good data, that people read fastest at a text size of 0.3 arc. And I'm taking away that it might be fine for paragraph text to be slightly larger than menu bar text. But a couple of factors jump out at me: 1 As they said,

Will candles set off the fire alarm where you live too? I'll wager that burning one sheet of paper at a time would be on par with a continuously burning candle.

It's possible I sit closer to the monitor than necessary to read most websites, but that's just the thing: I'll place the monitor as close as necessary to read the smallest elements in my OS, such as menu bars. Think of it

My opinion is the exact opposite. I experience 18px as a good font size on the phone, and 12px on the desktop. I'm sure analyses such as the one you quote are missing some important criterion, but I can't put my finger on what.

This effect is driven by the trend in CSS frameworks to increase the base font size for wider windows. I.e. you might have a base font size at 16px, which applies on your "phone" breakpoint, but your "desktop" breakpoint

Maybe you can have a friend stick his head into the attic at the destination, while you stick your head up at the origin, then you just tie the cable end to a basketball and throw it through the attic for your friend to catch.

Where has someone asked you to turn it off? IME, cinemas/theaters would at most ask you to enable airplane mode or silent mode and to not use the phone, but turning it off is an unnecessary step. To save battery on a long trip, I comb

Love that story! Parental controls: for controlling your parent. I guess in that mode, it would additionally have to disguise itself or just pretend network errors, so the child does not get a beating.

Consumers have a limited wallet anyway, and you know how most people are: they will spend most of their income anyway. So the ad business is more about shifting where the money goes, than about conferring any extra value.

You still have to figure out when it did. If there's a tree with 800 rings, but it died 100,000 years ago, then there's 100,000 years you have to date by some other method, and add 800 on top.
