I guess 25 points does make a difference but I do think it’s a pretty small difference, especially at the top of the range. I remember the MIT admissions blogs years ago claimed that they do not distinguish at all between a 750 and an 800.

I mean, gp recounted a story about someone who has a policy against renting to families, so so it sounds like they do refuse sometimes. Also, where I live, lots of families live in one or two bedroom apartments.

They said “they have a rule that they’ll never buy large apartments *and they’ll never rent to families*.” The second part is the illegal discrimination.

The Python honeymoon period lasts a long time. For me it lasted until the monolith I was working on had grown to ~500k lines of code. At that scale the smallest changes would cause (seemingly) unrelated breakage, despite many thousands of t

The article says ByteDance has “1,00,000 employees,” a number I initially read (understandably, I think) as one million. Other sources say they have around 150k employees. With 10k laid off, that would indeed be about 7%

A lot of self-proclaimed free-speech advocates believe it is illiberal to criticize them. For example, say I give a speech and people criticize me for it. If I then say “I’m practicing free speech. My critics are against free speech” then i

You’re being downvoted for contradicting the AI hype machine, but you are completely correct. Humans have been creating art for at least tens of thousands of years, and none of the reasons we create art will ever be fulfilled by AI.
