Here in Providence they're just used for tourists during Waterfire. Imagine, a form of transportation that makes RIPTA look efficient! :)

Without having worked in finance or national level advertising, I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you other than how I perceive those industries, but that is neither here nor there. As a datapoint, I cannot for the life of me understand

Not to be a pedant, but historically computing was considered "womens work" in its initial stages. I would address the the actual problematic elements of your comment, but I'm afraid in this forum such communication usually falls on deaf ea

I think its difficult for anyone to feel constantly happy and blissful. At what point is it happiness if its your baseline? In my opinion and experience, despair gives context to happiness.

Just pointing this out, it is entirely possible to be a HN reader and deal with clients who have set up their hosting and ignore your suggestions (pleas) to move to a better service. Sometimes clients with low budgets and non profits like

That one threw me too. Especially since I was under the impression that chastity was not his main concern in Paris... but then again, that's Paris ;)

Humor aside, I can't even imagine the shipping costs for pulling a stunt like this in reality. Then again, no one ever said spite was cheap!

While thats where many people start, its worth noting that its really a markup language that lacks core programming concepts (if statements, loops, etc...) Not that it isn't helpful! And as a relatively amusing anecdote, I started teaching

Zenni is pretty cheap. I've broken several pairs, but at $8 you can kind of afford to throw them away. The frames are usually midgrade plastic. I usually order 3 or 4 pairs at a time, assuming I'm going to lose or break at least 2 pairs.

I'm curious to what the "other side" of this issue is. Is there nary a safe space on the internet for men to talk about their experience in the tech sector?

Its "partisan" to think things like forced hormone therapy (and in some countries, not excluding our own: corrective rape and systematic abuse) is a bad thing, and dare we say, a violation of basic human rights? I'm sorry, I don't care who

You've got to be kidding me. Catering to one demographic does not inherently disenfranchise the other. Its not sexist that I've never seen a woman in a Gillette Fusion ad (eta: save for at the end when oh MAN is her honey smooth!). It is

You know, I come to HN mostly for the enlightened commentary on the news articles that are posted. Yet anytime something related to sexism in the industry comes up, I am stunned at some of the comments. Yes. It is hard being a woman in th

Not being familiar with privacy laws in the UK, did he have to sign a release to have his face shown on that program? If so I fail to see how its effectively shaming someone if they willingly submit to be filmed.

I wouldn't say "no commitments". I'm trying to pay down my loans as quickly as possible, and fix my credit score (which I totally screwed up in college), so having a set budget is a huge help. I can't risk a slow period at this point. Tho

I studied under Mason during her time at JWU (which may not be MIT, but is not a technical college, for the record). If you want to speculate as to why her titles were such, JWU has a high faculty turnover rate. To be considered a professo
