Doesn't surprise me. Even if it was an accident, it's improbable. Then again, back in the dark ages, we found that if NT3.51 was under heavy load, it was possible to generate two identical guids in under 2 hours of wall time.

I'm not sure java is being increasingly scorned. The scorners are just noisier.

Only problem is that xylitol gives you the shits. My dental hygiene routine which has worked well for 20 years is brush my teeth twice a day, avoid dentists altogether (most of what they do is unnecessary) and soft drinks and stay the hell

I wonder if it'll be an honest account of Jobs' life or just the popular bits. There is a big difference between the man and the legend.

This is quite interesting. Citing the reasons of the decline of IRC makes it a more attractive prospect if you ask me now. Time to dig out irssi again :) I was a user of IRC around 1998-2002 (I was a quakenet op) but I got lazy and bored of

I think Mr Un is absolutely spot on with his agenda but he's got to unravel many years of crazy before him without getting knocked off himself.

Not at all - you just missed a few facts that need considering. Lets rip it to bits some more: It's in system.windows.forms isn't it? Don't really want that dependency and associated resolution being dragged in to a web app otherwise the co

This times a million. The amount of shit I have to deal with where people have used it in criminal ways is unreal. Fine examples: .ToList() materialization multiple times in a call graph. Ok so the thread is eating 200mb of ram?!?!?! Generi

That's not much. We handle that every 7-10 minutes and these are complex quoting, transformation, credit scoring and CRM functions. WCF has been a big problem for us.

Yes our entire financial platform depends on WCF but the OP is right - its not reliable. We've had unpredictable latency, crashes, hideous bugs and configuration hell.

No its not actually. The scope of the legal agreement is undefined and may or may not encompass bits of the framework which mono implements or may implement in the future. So don't count on it, which is what our rather expensive lawyer told

Oh I completely agree with you and were moving to java slowly. All in saying is that WCF is about the most mature thing that shifts SOAP on windows which is the backend of most of our integrations unfortunately (they are corporates mainly).

This is because you can't measure it accurately. It's akin to religious interpretation. Unfortunately there is plenty of room to divide people and draw up conversations for the analysts to sell. Browser market share is so incredibly off. I

Yes this is obviously True at least for us. We've got one windows 8 user out of 22,000 people and its one of our QA team on a surface. Our app is productivity based and I don't think windows 8 is attractive to this segment.

That's inline with what I'm seeing. Were dropping .net slowly as it's simply unpredictable to manage costs and the staff quality in London to be honest is shit.

Probably the end of older generation COM C++ stuff that is being pushed to .net (server 2k appears to have finally bit the dust in corporates) and reasonable maturity of WCF.

Or just use java and benefit from mature libraries and frameworks, tooling and package management that isn't a piece of shit. Your insurance is the openjdk then rather than a thinly veiled promise not to sue from Microsoft.

Oh 100% I do. The best selling is the cheapest Chinese crap still, followed by the mega laptops followed by the ultrabooks. Outside Starbucks and excessively middle class areas, cheap is king.

They probably replaced the lid assembly whereas most vendors you can replace the panel with little effort (I did it on my ThinkPad in 30 minutes with the wrong tools for the job :) Considering the SSD and battery have the shortest lifespan

I doubt that happens any more. The whole unit will get swapped out instead. They are not repairable. Everything is glued in and not removable. I've had a fair amount of apple kit - I've found it to be hideously unreliable, clunky and of dub

Invest in build quality and reliability, potentially at the cost of end-user repairability. Have you used a ThinkPad? Reliability, quality and repairability. Only apple have managed to destroy the concept of repairability. Even no brand C

That rapidly changes the moment you get knocked off. Someone pulled out on me in Clapham and clipped my panniers and nearly knocked me off. Scared the shit out of me. Humans are just sacks of jam in an accident. No thanks.
