I'm pretty sure that the "all men" in that document wasn't literally "all men" (even, never mind all people) either, so perhaps we wouldn't consider it the last word on the subject.

In Europe at least, this is true for a vanishingly small number of key mountain passes. And most of them have been bypassed with motorways on shallower grades which are significantly longer, but still quicker for cars to travel. Everywhere

I don't know where you live, but the other thing I've noticed people who have never cycle toured really fail to notice is how many thousands of small roads there are, at least in Europe, which link everywhere. Agrigultural roads t

It's not "for existing". Taken collectively, their work underpins the conditions for the lives of those better off. Remove "the poor" from the equation, and it's likely your quality of life would collapse. The

While that sounds like an amazing technical accomplishment, I can tell you that discovering it on an amiga with a hifi separates amp and speakers[1] was definitely better. I was very lucky, but I'm not sorry! ;) The soundtrack is sensa

Surely you mean that the flat is for sleeping not living. They're too small for living, because all the living is done at the restaurants, bars, parks, theatres, offices and so on. If that's the style you prefer, then you need

Right. Facepalm. I kind of missed the bit where we shifted paradigms. My personal preference would still be to be explicit, to echew secret mutable state even in the tests, but that's just me. My personal baggage makes phrases like &qu

How do you convince the when-to-fire-logic to act on a mock, if the torpedo implementation is not provided from outside it? I'm wondering if I have the terminology understood differently to other people, because to me, DI == IoC. DI F

Do you distinguish between dependency injection (frameworks) and general inversion of control? Because what I think of dependency injection is extremely common in golang - they made interfaces satisfy structurally rather than nominally so t

How do you test the code which determines when to fire the torpedoes, without actually firing the torpedoes every time you run the tests?

Hah, yeah, the dropping of prepositions in around verbs has been alive in Yorkshire forever, where it's also common for articles too. And non-speakers often misrepresent the glottal stop which replaces the definite article in Yorkshire

Some points to consider: - ebola is transmitted via physical contact (with bodily fluids), not vapour in the air - ebola tends to be contagious only once symptoms appear, not for several days before Those two points alone make the two compl

But what would you install them on? (aside an emulator of course). As ROMs they seem more a part of the hardware than the other stuff there. But hey, it could just be lack of interest on the part of their audience. It looks like they'v

I was also surprised by the omission, but then realised they're hosting archives of the installers. Much of classic AmigaDOS is in the Kickstart ROM (with the workbench environment loaded from disk). I'm guessing that as an OS it&

Most of these stories relate to administering interactive multi-user machines, not the kind of thing we now think of as a server. Users were simultaneously logged in at the shell going about their business in *nix, not sending stateless req

Sure, your no code system can be Turing complete. Lots of things are accidentally Turing complete. But at that point, aren't you just coding with a different interface but all the same problems and complexity? And (as argued already

I suspect you are talking at cross purposes. You are suggesting no-code first on a micro timescale. For prototyping. That seems like a solid suggestion and use of resources. But from the GP, I read a statement on the macro scale. No-code ca

Careful. Plastics lock up carbon in "basically non-decomposable form" and that is proving problematic. And the problem isn't that we mined the carbon. Death (decomposition) is a critical part of the circle of life...

Many of those booleans aren't necessarily named. Any "is(n't) null" check on a nullable includes a boolean expression. That's quite a few booleans right there. Using an optional (and accessing it with either fmap or
