It’s even worse now in Canada — not smart devices, but water heater rentals. These companies charge astronomical rates per month for a rental, or a large “contract buy out fee”. They give kick backs to developers so almost all new builds in

Not to diverge too much, but if you’re keeping everything in memory how do you handle hardware failures etc? Wouldn’t that result in data loss?

Yup, definitely agree with this. I’ve noticed these are the managers that “feel like they’ve always been there”.

Somewhat satisfied customer here. Omnia is great as a wired router but I offloaded wifi to another device (eero in my case). Mox I was less satisfied with, has some strange bugs that have never been fixed. I probably wouldn’t pre-buy a new

Could be anything from poor management to contractual/legal requirements. For one client, we had to fly from Canada to the US, but could work remotely from any US site. Usually the client would set us up with a nice office a short flig

Who decides what’s non-critical? I’d prefer my news articles not be rewritten by the government for example. Catering security to the absolute lowest common denominator (“can’t set a clock”) is not a path to success.

That’s generally the definition of free, yes. You might have a different definition, but it’s certainly not a common one.

On the flip side, it’s the longer you can survive an outage by relying on enough clients having the cached records. So can go both ways a bit.

I wish I had some really insightful reply that would expand upon this, but really I think you captured it beautifully. I can remember conversations at a music festival 20 years ago for exactly the reasons you said — in one or two nights I w

You’re assuming the over subscription is only occurring on the transit / peering side and not the last mile. I’m not so sure that’s entirely true.

Positions past senior have existed much longer than 5 or 6 years at Amazon.

Distinguished Engineer is the top “level” for engineers at Amazon. It’s equivalent to a VP position for managers. So it’s a job title, similar to Sr Engineer.

I wonder if you’re bumping into issues with t-mobile’s 646XLAT ( https://sites.google.com/site/tmoipv6/464xlat )?

This more-or-less describes the Canadian system as well. We get “voter cards” mailed to us that make it easier to look up the person on the voter rolls, that’s the only notable difference. And they aren’t required, similar to what you say.

Being on the top of the Empire State Building with my uncle who absolutely loves NYC and having him just point out so much famous stuff is a great memory. Just history as far as the eye can see.

Might depend on your environment too, I generally find the newer you can get for systemd the better off you are (which is really quite high praise!). Unfortunately the life cycle for some of our environments is quite long for things like RH

I generally agree, but will say that’s not always easy if it’s something system level that’s being induced to be too chatty —- you’re stuck replacing the upstream unit’s Exec, which frankly kind of sucks. I’m also trusting the filter to be

I’m a big fan of systemd, but we’ve definitely run into actual bugs in it. Especially the early RHEL7 days (7.0-7.3). Some were fixed upstream, some we’ve worked around, etc.

That’s definitely not true for TLS. Your certificate private key should never leave your possession, outside of a few narrow exceptions (Amazon’s ACM comes to mind). The normal process is to send a certificate signing request, which your CA
