I run a production node.js app and my experience hasn't been bad. My cofounder and I spent more time in the beginning (not much more time, mind you) learning how to deal with multiple outstanding async calls, a good application structure fo

This isn't exactly patchable by skype, is it? Obviously skype could turn off some printfs from the log, but the fact the client needs the IPs and Ports to attempt connecting locally, and then over WAN, makes me think that a tool like this c

Yeah, now you can obtain an IP by name by searching for their name in the contact search of skype to get the username, then using this tool.

There's an online service called Blue Jeans Network that lets you have a conference call with Skype, H.323, Google Talk, and Microsoft Lync participants. http://bluejeans.com/

I'm curious if they tried to employ BigCouch, the dynamo-esque fork of CouchDB.

Teaching somebody how to set up a rails app with some basic routes and implementing some ajax calls and stuff, sure. Will they know what's going on under the hood though? Taking somebody from ground zero and teaching them enough to be able

Heroku dynos are still ran on EC2 instances, exclusively on the East coast of the US. I'm not sure if these postgres servers are. However one interesting note is that the "maximum database size" of the heroku server is 2TB, while RDS is 1TB

This is pretty sweet sauce. You get the modular ideology like Erlang.. without the syntax. Ew.

This has always reminded me of how fragile the human condition is, and how similar people are to the computers that they build. Little late for the American Independence Day, but whatever.

I would say all successful engineers and aspiring entrepreneurs need to know the basis upon which we program today. Where we came from with assembly, why so many people wrote blocking code vs using event-driven programming, even though we'v

I agree. A technical co-founder with no business sense would likely be inclined to disagree with business decisions made by the CEO, thus causing friction internally and hindering productivity.
