Hartl's book, site, and screencasts made Ruby on Rails genuinely fun. As a designer without any formal training in development I recommend this book — especially the paid screencast version — to everyone curious about Rails or trying to get

* only claim 11% market share 1. Ha! Don’t you wish you had an 11% market share in your industry? 2. Since when did market share affect how well Apple is doing? I imagine they have a silo full of money somewhere where employees can swim in

* Simply showing Apple growing it's market share here doesn't necessarily mean HP or Dell shipped fewer units. Simply, HP & Dell shipped fewer units. Evidence: Gartners’ chart headings. One of which read, “4Q10 Shipments” the other, “4Q

It'd be helpful to see the year-over-year data. Does GoDaddy usually get a spike of new domains at new years? Either way, tell everyone you know, “GoDaddy is a terrible business.” elaborate if necessary.

I'm a Mac/iPhone using designer, and super-excited about Win 8. I think you've got it backwards. Windows sells more than Mac OS, iOS, and Android combined.

Remember when people were up in arms about how much location data iPhones stored locally? This is 1000 times worse.

The context of the two platforms is very telling. You buy an iPhone in a crystal palace. You buy an Android phone from a "Wireless Store" between a bodega and a paycheck loan store. The technology is democratized, but the audience varies.

I keep hearing that Apple acquired NeXT over Be because of every reason aside from quality of the technology. Was BeOS worse than NeXTSTEP?

David, The chamber could care less about innovative businesses. Such businesses are part of their constituency. They take a shit on consumers. Real people are a group for whom they could not care less. I was aware of the phrasing and using

I think the chamber of commerce could care less. They're a force of evil against consumers. If they had it their way there'd still be lead paint on your walls, seatbelts would be optional, and the ingredients of your food would be a mystery

In particular, CEA members are up in arms over so-called private right of action provisions in the bills that would allow trademark and copyrights holders to seek court orders requiring ad networks and payment processors to cut off busines

The author's superfluous use of words written in all capital letters and liberal use of exclamation points speaks volumes towards his credibility.

TextMate 2.0 will be free. Maybe TextMate 2.0.1 will cost $79. Maybe if enough people support TextMate 2.0 by paying for it, the rest of the freeloaders will get 2.0.1 for free, as well.

Google for "Cocoaheads". If you live in San Francisco, hang out at NSCoders. Go to hackathons, often you'll meet Objective-C devs. Find an indie Mac developer whose products you like and pitch the idea to him or her.

It'd be nice to see the end of commoditized patent holding. E.g. Only the creators of a technology can benefit from the patent process. The "proxied from a third party to sue a second party" without any original innovation is a pathetic pup

I've been using ifttt to: * Scour Craigslist for an apartment in San Francisco * Put indeed.com job searches for "UI Design San Francisco" into Evernote * Monitor airline fares for the cheapest time to buy a one-way ticket from BOS to SFO *

It means they're commodity hardware. They're made of plastic. They're poorly designed, cheaply made, and the general goal is to be almost as good as a MacBook Air. Sometimes second place isn't good enough.
