This is my experience as well locally in SE PA. 2018-19 seemed like the peak and they were literally everywhere, but I’ve only seen a handful of adolescent lanternflies this year.

This was my initial impression to, but up-thread there’s a link to an article about the buyers. Tl;dr they are wealthy, wanted a house in the area, and are “super stoked” to rebuild it and live there forever.

Sure, but isn’t “raise the cost of the API to the point where it is prohibitively expensive for everyone” at best a cost reduction strategy only?

I don't see how this is a play towards profitability, when the (obvious) outcome of their absurd pricing is a massive reduction in API usage. The fact is, advertisements pay better than any amount their users or third-party developers

ehhhh that comparison is pretty weak. you get to choose how much you care about being "discriminated" against for your interests. you don't get to choose how racial discrimination impacts you.

unfortunately the best "dumb tv" these days is obtained by getting the "smart tv" that you _wish_ was dumb, and never connecting it to the internet.

Kailh has their Choc switches which are low profile. Not quite chicklet but fills the same role for the most part. Low-pro lovers seem to like them quite a bit.
