I know that when I worked for a major hosting company in 2001, we had our own SSH keys added to every VPS. This gave us access without needing their password. Right or wrong, it is very common at hosting companies.

I'm about to get married and I love the idea. I need to think about who I am going to entrust my macbook to. I'll ask the mrs. and get her opinion on it. I think this is a great idea.

I program residential automation systems and this is a real concern of ours. On some projects we must show proof of proper insurance coverage. I am surprised that most programming projects don't require a similar assurance.

What legal implications does this have? You shouldn't be liable for someone illegally using your software. If you store their information they may have some claim against you for locking up their data.

There is a great utility called "LittleSnitch" that is a must have for the mac. It alerts you of all outgoing TCP connections. It lets you know what programs are calling home.

Is anyone interested in trying any of these? I've already connected my security system to twitter and I doubt it be much harder to make an interface for my dog to use it.

If that is what you are going for, then yes. There is nothing wrong with that strategy. I haven't found anything remarkable at IKEA (except for price).

There is something to be said for writing code you can be proud of. I'm always working on finishing projects faster and not introduce bugs in the name of speed. I can't see a furniture craftsman recommend that you just buy a chair at IKEA.

How many repeat applications do you see? I am interested in applying and, likely, re-applying while I work on the idea. Is this common? Does it clutter the application process to see previously rejected applications again and again?

It matters a lot to me. I often hit the back button within 3 seconds of the page loading. The information needs to be cleanly presented and the site needs to look credible.

Here is my twitter based home security system. I'm using phidgets but I have ordered an Arduino and will update the code. Making software do things in the "real" world is a lot of fun. http://www.instructables.com/id/Combining-security-s

I'm in the home automation business and this is what I do all day. Complex tasks become very intuitive when you use pretty graphics and simple layouts. If you need ideas for widgets, check out what the guys at http://www.chumby.com have

Don't drop out. I "finished early" but in all practicality it was the same thing. It seems like a good idea but I promise that my GED isn't worth anything. I have been able to get good programming jobs based on my ability to get projects d

That is a good idea, has anyone done this? What was turn-out like? Did you have to talk with the manager first?

Its an interesting idea. I'm working with GAE but before I started I had to choose what platform I wanted to use. It seems like if I needed S3 it would have been best to go 100% amazon. I don't want to discourage you at all. Make a demo

I have some experience with embedded linux and I would suggest using netburner's dev board to start (netburner.com) They have a good C++ IDE to help you get started. If you are more familiar with Flash I would suggest getting started playi

If you don't mind, what did you do? Did you go after other sources of funding? What are you doing with your prototype now?
