For Canadians, or like minded thrifty purchasers, the iPod touch is a great alternative to the iPhone. I'm planning on getting one myself but I'm waiting until September as there is a rumor that Apple is changing/upgrading their iPod line.

That's a statement that's not as true as it used to be. Objective-C 2.0 introduced garbage collection, There are many novice programmers that are now jumping to ObjC because of the iPhone SDK hoopla.
