Right now, I'm trying to strike a balance between making info available to devs and respecting user's privacy. The site gets the emails and IP addresses of people who get apps but doesn't reveal those to the dev. The only "metric" that's av

Thanks for sharing this. I have a bright five year-old and, having read articles like this one, my partner and I try praise effort as much as we can. Here's the problem. For nearly all of the tasks she's set in school, she doesn't need to e

I'm not sure I like it, but this works def nil.method_missing(*args, &block); end So now you can call nil.whatever.you.like and get nil. It's also still falsy, but now every nil value in your app silently works and doesn't thro

This sounds interesting, but what kinds of commit statistics can I expect to see if I sign up? Also, is there any way to get statistics on existing commits in a repo I have? It would be awesome if I could do something like: cd ~/code/my

http://guides.rubyonrails.org/security.html looks pretty good. I'm coming back to rails after a few years and I honestly can't believe how good the official guides are. Clearly written & brilliantly organized, I wish all frameworks we

While there's a huge amount of redundancy and nested method calls, it's worth bearing in mind that: 1. This is a preview release 2. The intention is almost certainly that the output code will be compiled and optimized later. Compilation is

I'm wondering about that too. It seems Nuance (the platform Siri is built on) supports lots of accents, though I'm not sure how this works on the iPhone. Maybe it uses your regional settings to choose an accent profile? http://community.nu

We have a pretty good idea. As soon as iOS 5 goes GM, we'll be able to use Xcode 4.2 (and ARC) to submit apps. With the rumoured announcement next week, iOS 5 should be GM in the next week or two. In any case, if you're reading an introduct

I guess the VAT situation must be different in other parts of Europe. I'm in Ireland and prices are usually advertised as ex-VAT if customers have a VAT bill they're paying themselves (because they charge VAT). That isn't the case for Irish

Happy MacVim user here, but for me replacing TextMate with MacVim led me to replace e-texteditor with gVim when I'm on Windows. I have a shared vimrc I use on ubuntu server too, so it's really all vim. Maybe that's what minikomi meant. As a

To help capitalize on all the HN traffic, you might want to include a more prominent link to fotobookapp.com (probably in the first sentence when you introduce the app). It took me a while to see the link at the end of the article. Also, th

I'm surprised you haven't been prompted to upgrade your account. 37signals switched to a new login system 18 months ago which doesn't store passwords in the clear. With a new login you get a regular password reset email.
