Does it even matter if it was warmer in the past? Right here, right now, we can prove that human efforts have changed the temperature of the planet. Right here, right now, we can see the effects of that change. Increased frequency of storms

I'm in the US and have to make an appointment with my GP 3 months in advance. If I don't call between 10am and noon or 2pm to 4pm, I can't make an appointment. The last time I went to the hospital, I waited 5 hours before I w

It's very easy to go against the golden rule. I don't want people to scream obscenities at me so I don't. If I scream obscenities at people and am upset when people respond in kind, it's clear I violated the golden rule

It's a commentary in that it was written in response to the practices of the day. It's nonfalsifiable because it can't be incorrect. No matter what you do, you can claim it didn't match what the authors intended

Not really a fair comparison. Stripping out types is trivially fast regardless of the implementation language. The _vast_ majority of the time taken in tsc is because of the type checking

There's no reason this couldn't have been built in Unity or Unreal. You can build literally anything (within the limits of computation) in those engines.

I keep seeing people say "I have X but I haven't gotten diagnosed yet". Pet peeve: you _think_ you have ADHD but you can't state that you have ADHD without a diagnosis. If you have a piece of bone sticking out of your le

It's really bizarre. From my perspective, comments on HN are usually at least slightly better reasoned than other social sites. But this thread is absolutely crawling with comments flat out denying the science

Looks really cool! One thing I'm not clear on from the docs: does it support ignoring changes to some files for "real" commits? For example, a repo at work has a file used for mocking up feature flags. The file is tracked but

The difference is that high level languages actually bring a level of abstraction not present in assembly. Tailwind does not exist on a higher level of abstraction. It's at the same level but written in a different vernacular

I'm not going to argue with you. You can choose to believe that you're correct but your definition does not align with the established definition of the term. I'm not even religious so I don't have a horse in this race.

I think your vocabulary is out of date. Nerd and geek are synonyms in common tongue and neither carry much weight to them anymore. You like Marvel? You're a nerd. Ignore that they're one of the most successful brands in the world

Again, that's not Node. It's JavaScript. You experience the same typing issues in any environment which runs JS (browser, embedded system, etc.). If you want a good type system then you need to change languages and treat JavaScrip

Poor typing isn't a Node issue, it's a JavaScript issue. Use TypeScript, install @types/node, and you're ready to go. The rest of what you say is true. Although I actually do enjoy using Node for quick one-off scripts an
