P.S. I also asked this on Quora - as an experiment to see what kind of answers I'll get there vs. here. http://www.quora.com/Why-isnt-a-content-addressable-cache-bu...

The Micrososft "to the cloud" commercials really drive me nuts (as much as I currently enjoy working this phrase into conversation as much as possible). They could make an argument about providing higher reliability, protection against dat

Amazon has a lot of latitude in setting the price of a Kindle. That is because the device is essentially only useful when purchasing content from Amazon. They should lower the price if it would increase demand for their content. If it wer

I agree it would be nice to be more cut and dried. In practice, I think it would come down to a court deciding if their was the possibility of misleading the consumer, by mimicking a well-known brand in a particular market. So I think busi

Have you ever notice how '$' is sometimes overridden in the developer tools console - it does not always refer to jQuery when I'm debugging in a breakpoint (thankfully, 'jQuery' always works). This confused me for quite a while. Is it some

Thanks for posting this straw-man, Brian [disclosure - I'm an investor in RescueTime, and talked to Brian about this idea earlier]. If I might kick off this discussion ... I think it's a cool idea if done right. If I can summarize your po

Are you suggesting that the only trade marks be totally made up words? That flies in the face of hundreds of years of tradition. People have been using their own names in their business and need to be able to keep others from unfairly try

On the other hand, names are meant to be used, otherwise why have one at all. So there would have been people referring to the Django release of WordPress - at least for a while. That would be very confusing.

They could put all executed code in a cookie-less domain, that way it can't access any private resources on your behalf (modulo XSS bugs on other sites). This is what the Google code playground does: http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playg

I agree the multi user aspect is an area that could use improvement. This would imply that you'd be able to have a different set of cookies in each window - something that forces many of us to use multiple browsers or incognito mode to ach

Can anyone comment, not on the social harm caused by using an .ly domain, but rather the risk of failure of the DNS system to continue to honor your records. I would presume that Libya has outsourced the DNS root servers and administration

This smells like vapor-ware; a pure marketing move. The timing of the announcement, coming so close on the heals of the uproar about Apple's subscriptions and pricing battles with publishers, makes it look like Google is floating a trial b

It's one thing for an individual user to ask not to be bothered by results from an entire domain. It's quite another for Google to make that call for EVERYONE. I think this is a great first step. If the evidence is overwhelmingly against

I think this was the original value proposition behind Twitter. I would say the only reason people were originally interested in it was that it could enable SMS broadcast. The main thing SMS has going for it is ubiquity. Too bad it is so

I like the goals. I wish 2.0 was ready now. I'm only tangentially interested in non-JavaScript versions. Fixing the merged contexts and getting dot-notation are the killer new features. I'd use this as soon as it becomes available. I ho

eval is evil. JSON.parse() is fine - neither of which is a "hand-written" parser written in JavaScript.

Us JS programmers do like our monkey-patching. I suppose I could have done this with a stand-alone function ... but the syntax would not be 1/2 as "cool".
