If argue that if you were ever asked to show your work, you were writing the equivalent of a mathematical essay. Maybe you never had to learn proofs, but I did. “I didn’t have to do that and I turned out fine” isn’t a very rigorous pedagogy

Essay writing shows that you actually know the domain material, that you are capable of holding onto a thought for more than 3 seconds and that you can communicate thoughts clearly to other people. What’s an alternative way to show those th

That’s usually how it’s done with words that end in one consonant when adding a suffix that starts with a vowel, so as not to change the pronunciation of the short vowel in the root word due to english’s rules around long and short vowels.

I have a couple pairs of Fjallraven Vidda Pros, and they have double knees with an opening to slip a foam pad inside (which they also sell). Carhartt has a similar method with their work jeans. I’m sure this could be DIY’d as well for the s

There is another kind of mistake than can be made besides procedural. My worst safety screwups in foodservice were 2 things: cutting through my fingernail and about 2/3 of my entire fingertip with a brand new chefs knife (looked away a

I've wanted to ditch the iPhone/Macbook and go watch/airpods/ipad for years now. They need to decouple the requirement to own an iPhone to get a watch up and running (this should be something an iPad can do), and make th

Similarly, I’ve been thinking lately about forking Swift, because there’s a lot I love about the language, but also a lot of, IMO, unnecessary sugar and redundant surface area.

I have about 10 5-quart jugs stashed away in my garage, I’ll eventually bring them to the auto parts store when I already need to go there for something. It’d be silly to make a dedicated trip each time.

I dunno, it takes me about 15 minutes of actual work to change my oil, vs driving to and from the shop and waiting. It’s like a 10x time difference, and I’m still probably doing it with more care than Jiffy Lube.

Could you explain why that is? If I have an airgapped smart home network, someone has to come physically sniff the packets. If it’s only over ethernet, they have to physically plug in. That’s not a scalable attack strategy.
