I also think Dyson swarms are the future. But I think the Mars effort is helpful towards getting there. Elon's public motivation for Mars is basically a human backup plan. And for that, it probably may be the best shot of the next 100

I actually think requiring to give prices is consistent with libertarian approaches. I like good clear contract law. I think being able to give prices is basically required for good contracts. This is why every other industry does this, and

Space is much bigger than the ground of earth. So 30k in a larger volume than the ground. There are over 1.4 billion vehicles on just a small fraction of the earth. There is a long way to go before traffic in space is a serious concern.

This person used VISA, a part of (debatably the worst tri-opoly) as example of something open? Insane. I was genuinely interested in where he was going but this was just a huge fail. New entrants who wish to take on credit card offerings ca

I don't believe that is true. This famous chart shows funding levels versus requested since the 1970s: https://images.app.goo.gl/58YdLFt7R9uY8dyR6 The much maligned prediction that fusion is 30 years away was always an

Don't know if this is accurate but the entire online stock brokerage industry revenue appears to be about $14B. That seems like a significantly lower upper bound to the market size here. That said, what seems interesting here is to com

I've been listening to the revolutions podcast (very good) and was really struck by the idea that having "skin in the game" was almost universally considered superior to universal suffrage for a long time. I think there is so

I couldnt really read this article due to the tone beyond the introduction where they talk about the business model. They talk very dismissively about the whole thing, but I believe the business model was clear for Uber. Build a new transpo

I agree with this somewhat. I don't think you need a von Neumann probe, but colonizing mars is dramatically easier if you can have semi-autonomous robots working. At least enough to have on the ground or in orbit astronauts coordinatin

I like your thinking! A couple of points: (1) we don't really know the threshold yet to be beyond repair I think. It may be 1% but may be 20%. (2) as others noted, it's 15 years for 0.1% damage using your math. (3) your timeline d

Thanks! Good article. I didn't understand purchase orders in particular until deep into B2B stuff. It was just something I encountered until selling deals like $10k+. I still think they are a bit strange.

These GDPR banners have made the internet a worse place for most users IMO, there needs to be an easy way to consent to all tracking and skip the banners across all sites. I'm fine with this being opt in, but it should be easy to do on

Most doctors and nurses do not work in emergency wards. So if it were truly desperate, it seems almost trivial to get more support. There are 200,000 dentists in the US. 115,000 veterinarians.

But human support is not free, and that is the point. Yes, everyone wants 24/7 support in the channel they want, with someone in country, highly trained to answer all their questions. Can you have this? Sure! It's expensive though

Know what will help the detection of near-Earth asteriods? Starship, with its giant payload capability and low cost. I'm surprised about how many astronomers seem to...not want us to go do stuff in space.
