My bank used to show deposited check photos in a popup with the URL viewable iirc, and sometime they switched to a modal window with base64 data as the source instead of a URL that might be manipulated. I wonder how many small banks still m

I had these same issues. It took me considerably more time and effort to write a Swagger spec and get the UI to actually behave than it did to write my entire API and some simple docs in markdown. I also tried out the "codegen" an

Somewhat unrelated, I have seen a lot of places list a "con" of Sentry that its only free plan (non-trial) is self-hosted. This is a pro for me! I LOVE that I can run Sentry on my own infrastructure :)

I have successfully used https://briefmetrics.com/ before with clients who couldn't be bothered to learn the GA dashboard and wanted reporting. I have also used the "email dashboard on a schedule" and made a

I have seen a fair number of "abrupt" and poorly executed shutdowns on HN over the last few years, and although I don't use Parse, I feel as though the team did a good job sunsetting this over the last year. Thank you for the

I think this is a really good idea, but if you look on eBay you can buy a 200cm by 45cm (~ 78.7 in by 17.7in) vinyl whiteboard sticker for $5. You could buy this, trim it down and use it on a handful of laptops at a significantly cheaper co

For a new user, they may have no idea that this is a 30 day trial until they download and run the app, and I don't think that there is pricing information on the website anywhere. Not necessary to have any of this, just some feedback :

If you are using The Great Suspender, chances are that background tabs are going to be fully suspended so the aggressive throttling isn't even needed. tl;dr - Great suspender is even "more aggressive" than the outlined thrott

It's awesome to see Chrome trying to improve performance for people with many tabs open, which is many of us. I use a LOT of tabs, and the best plugin has been The Great Suspender. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants memory &

I love the idea of this, but I'm not a big fan of Electron apps. Simplenote has worked amazingly for me for a few years now and has a nice native application (yes, I know you can't host your own server)

This is great to know! I'm surprised support hasn't mentioned this to me. I'm assuming it's because I reached out while the test was happening, but being able to opt-out for the future is great. Thank you!

Netflix's A/B testing has really screwed me in the past in terms of performance, so much so that I reached out to support to ask if there was a way to manually remove me from the testing group at that time. I'd log in, and th

If I don't understand every single line of code and algorithm in any piece of OSS I use, do you feel as though I don't need it? Not starting a flamewar with this question, I'm genuinely curious

Yes, it supports custom log formatting but you'll likely have to write a bit of parsing code in the config, see docs here: https://goaccess.io/man#custom-log There are also a lot of log formatting q&a in the github

I've been using tmux heavily in my local development workflow for the last 6 months or so, and it absolutely pays off to have three window tiles in a single terminal window at a bare minimum. I am also using teamocil to manage windows

Yes, this appears to be correct - the Firefox API supports filtering out of the box. If you check the readme on the WebSocket companion, it specifically mentions Chromium based browsers, assumedly indicating it's intended for them. The

I'm not talking about your personal 2 reader a month setups either. There are high amounts of traffic, I just have proper caching setup. Administrative interface is the only thing you can't cache and that's low traffic.

Came here to say the same thing - I'd love to see a monthly cost on a setup that looks like this... or anything on AWS. I can run many many WP sites on a $10/month box (not AWS) with proper config tunings.
