Vscode’s agent mode in copilot (even in the insider’s nightly) is a bit rough in my experience: lots of 500 errors, stalls, and outright failures to follow tasks (as if there’s a mismatch between what the ui says it will include in context

To my eye that looks essentially like a tie, which may seem like not that big of a deal. When I run compilation and multithreaded integration tests on my chonky AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (16 cores, 32 threads) on Ubuntu 24.04, and on my 2020 M1 Mac

Alpine docker images only come with dash instead of bash, which _may_ run your sh script, but test thoroughly. Or just install bash. FWIW, Darwin/macOS is especially guilty of gobsmackingly ancient coreutils that don’t support long opt

Presumably the cracker: 1. spoofed an account whose PRs were auto-merged (renovate[bot]) 2. found that `index.js` was marked as binary, and knew that GitHub is "helpful" (for the exploit), and hides diffs in the PR for that file b

15 years ago, it took a full 10 minutes to launch IDEA or Eclipse and have it finish opening a large (100kloc+) java project on a brand-new high-end MacBook Pro. 3-10 crashes per day were common. Lots or coffee breaks, or at least switching

If I had to guess, antirez was describing engineering managers and tech leads that have (mis)read “clean code” or similar works, and take them as commandments from on high rather than tools and approaches that may be helpful or applicable i

If you just talk about notifications, the apple watch is better, in that you can reply without pulling out your phone, or even take the voice call, which you can't (at least afaik) on a Garmin. If you look at Apple watch activity track

Thanks to ChatGPT (but not validated), here’s an ffmpeg one-liner that may segment based on large-scene-differences: ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf "select='gt(scene,0.4)',showinfo" -reset_timestamps 1 -vsync vfr -f segment out

It can be, but the idea of having “code experts” (or people with the most battle scars with this chunk of code) can absolutely be helpful, especially if the team is sufficiently large (and people aren’t afraid to talk to other people for gu

I couldn’t upgrade PhotoStructure to v5.0.0 due to a showstopping error thrown deep in the new router (for a valid path spec). I haven’t tried the new patch release yet (nor even had time to properly trace where the issue in express was to

Luxon is great! You’re correct about its origin. I use Luxon both for exiftool-vendored and PhotoStructure. The new temporal api discussed in TFA includes more robust calendar support and more flexible zoned DateTime than Luxon afaict.

TL;DR: if your Node.js project's test suite fails in confusing ways when using v22.x, force your build matrix to use v22.5.1 instead. (This post was as much a PSA as it was a schadenfreude sharing exercise!)
