Howdy, I'm the author of PhotoStructure, and was interviewed for this article. AMA about photo metadata, deduping, asset management, or hierarchical folksonomies.

I recently switched to the 465 driver (on Ubuntu 20.04) and had issues: try downgrading back to 460 if you're in the same boat.

Apple used to have a spectacular record with stable formats: see HFS+. Unfortunately, over the last several years, that's gone out the window. Mojave can't read some Big Sur volumes, even though both are using "Apple File Sys

This approach requires 1. a _huge_ amount of trust and respect for the acquired team to not meddle/interfere, and 2. a huge amount of restraint to not force the acquired team into conforming to whatever standards and norms are present

Yes: you can use `exiftool -all: $file` to strip all metadata, but please have backups before you do anything: ExifTool is both powerful and fast.

The bitrot detection is via libjpeg, libraw, and ffmpeg (to handle both photo and video validation): they can be run in verbose modes that can report decoding errors which are due to file truncation or outright corruption.
