Too many ads. Ads that are large. Ads that are videos. I am privileged enough to have a connection that can serve up the content with all of those ads. But I'm not privileged with the patience to read anything on that site. If you don&

I have mixed feelings about this comment. It's good satire. But that's something I expect on reddit. Over here, it seems like we're running afoul of the forum norms, and Poe's Law.

Penny farthing bikes are death traps. Bikes that have similarly sized wheels with pedals on the front wheel aren't practical enough to be better than walking. Bikes without pedals are also not practical.

I don't know why all the rich people in the US didn't leave when they broke up Standard Oil or Bell. Or when FDR got a third term. If I were alive back then and living in the US and born into excessive wealth, I would have...

More like 1998. But yeah, the model of tech-washing has increased in popularity since then. The example that most readily comes to mind is Uber, and they started in 2009.

I agree in principle, but I'd figure most people on HN would know what FP and OOP are.

Iraq is mostly desert but it used to be the fertile crescent. Did the hanging gardens of Babylon go away because they turned off the sprinklers? What actually happened was successive waves of deforestation. The same deforestation that made

SWF is flash. Vector graphics are just a subset of the format. Any tool claiming to support that format would have to support the rest of the spec, which is overkill for many vector applications. Even though Adobe owns SWF, they don't
