This is an interesting discussion and I a waffling on this issue like an incumbent red state Democrat... I am a little surprised that no one has trotted out this history lesson: "In 1969, Ken Thompson wanted to play SpaceWar on a PDP-8

What I am saying here is anecdotal (but when did that ever stop anyone)... I have to agree with Bock. I was an English major at a solid school (Rutgers) and went on to do some grad work in Comp Lit at NYU. Years later I took CS/ Math c

Good point. I was with a more experienced friend who was carrying less weight. I never had to take my pack off. If I had thought I would need to I would have shed some non-polluting weight. I was carrying 6L water at that point and there wa

Great idea - I have never used one. There was a recent 'This American Life" podcast where the marine version of this saved a family on a sinking vessel in the middle of the Pacific. I bring a tiny dual band ham radio (Baofeng uv5r

There was a story of a guy in South Carolina a few weeks back who went out in the woods with 2 kids and had to be rescued. He was incredibly unprepared and was lost with young kids for ~ 2days. There is a distortion, where map distance and

What a great Dad: "A local arcade not far from where we lived regularly put old games up for sale. My dad noticed that they had listed a Space Ace cabinet for $300. To this day I will never forget my shock — my dad bought it and brough

The resume is good (experience is amazing). It is LaTeX, no? With older coders I recommend familiarity with github and LinkedIN - check and check. I might separate out blogs. Create a landing spot just for the resume. The related blog entri
