I was going to reply with something like 'The NYTimes is a waste of time (2013)' - but that is a really good short piece.

There is independent information to support that NK is this bad and worse. No question about that.

Obviously I don't mean both Koreas - North Korea is significantly worse than Haiti. And yes more than one commenter referred to Koreans as being warlike (speeder, etc). And the piece is cited in the Unification Church alumni website - not t

hacker news - this really bums me out. Last week HN was rightly all over Atlantic for shilling for Scientology. This article is written by the unification church - right up in the same bat shit crazy neighborhood as LR Hubbard and his pals.

Wow - did not know it had come to this. OT but I felt like Frontline 'softballed' the piece on Michelle Rhee the other day. Not that I disagreed with the piece just left feeling that I did not get a critique - which is what I am used to fro

'Devian' Linux? Never heard of it. Sci Linux: "As the name suggest, the distribution is geared towards scientists doing scientific stuff (I wouldn’t know)." No it is no more (or less) scientific than CentOS. Dreadful article.

Me too - I have had to explain a few off-color words from their viewing of fan videos on youtube. "Dad is 'fucking retarded' a bad thing to say...?"

I thought you were coining a neologism in the title. "cloudy + flesheating?!?!?" Clicked just for that and was disappointed.

Asians are just as impatient - I am not sure what your frame of reference is. I am no expert but lived and worked in Asia for 3 yrs. When things are properly organized here lines work fine. This is an interesting subject for me. I am mildly

Made me think of something that I havent in years. Kant's 'purposeful purposelessness' - a definition of the aesthetic purpose. Buying 20 sets of cutlery is most definately hyperbole (or no tit doesnt matter) - I think mapgrep is mistaken t

Reminds me of a children's joke - which i didn't even think was funny at the time - but enjoyed anyway: "Dr, Dr! Every time I drink a cup of coffee, I get a stabbing pain in my right eye..." (google it if you don't remember) Exhibits, the s

I can imagine it as I am building out a 30 node hdfs cluster with 10g BNT switches. How do you design 40 nodes to a rack? Just curious...

Also on the tldp site is a 'beginner's BASH guide' - in fact there are a number of guides: http://tldp.org/guides.html Unfortunately a lot of the stuff has not been updated in 5 yrs or so - but it is still fun to read through from time to

Much milder - but I always got a chuckle over the pornview program - a nice little program to view whole directories of photos under Debian. Quite possibly not the best for the job but a name stuck in memory.

This article is better than most on the subject. I thought the analogy to communism weak but some of other points good. This was very true: What have you done? Sure, very few users are software engineers, but that doesn’t mean they can

Funny - I get drawn in too, especially on HN. I think I might learn something or figure out a new way of doing things. But usually turns out to be 'whining about wine...' and other such topics that are not really that useful. Think I will t
