epoll and read are different calls though, expecting them to behave the same when they have very different uses is weird to me. If it is a bug, then why does the man page call out this case, and other cases with dup and dup2 as use cases? W

I want to reply to you but I am too tired to make a proper well thought out reply. So I will keep it short. I agree with you, and there is a whole lot of stuff to talk about with regards to this (far too much for me to type right now). As p

While I did take my example to an extreme to illustrate my point I think we can agree that trivia will be learned along the way, it just not what should be the meat of the teaching or testing. Your example of #StopAdani made me smile (not b

It's not that we are getting dumber. We are just changing our skill set. Remembering where to find a set of information or how to find a set of information is more effective than remebering each item in the set. Search engines have c

I think you are right. The older I get and the more people I work with I realize that most people are just ignorant. They come up with a "good idea" based on their ignorance and then push it. I know what it is like, because I have

The difference is we don't know how the EM drive is working (or are we sure it is working). The 3 projects in the parents flat out don't work, and we know why they don't work -- or at least know to what extent they will work.

There is a big difference between Edison and what is going on with these projects. It's not merely that somebody found a way that it won't work, it's they showed the laws of physics will prevent it from ever being a reality.

Sure, but all 3 of the projects listed had people very early on point out that back of the envelope calculations don't add up and warned them that their projects are going to fail. Each of those those groups proceeded to ignore or not

I see your point about early detection. While a trie will have precise early failure detection a hash will have 2 ways to fail early. One would be the hash is simply not found. But at that point you had to at least look at the entire input

I would argue a trie is not that good compared to a hash. Each letter is going to be a list (which you have to search), or have a fixed sized array pointing to the next letter (could be problematic with languages that use more than a-zA-z).
