I get butter, cheese, and sour cream at a local zero waste shop. We don't use dairy milk though, just nut milk and oat milk where we buy the nuts and oats in bulk and blend with water. https://treadingmyownpath.com/2017

Tasks could have more logical structure than a dependency graph. You can imagine a kind of programming language for tasks with conditional logic, loops, exceptions, blocking I/O, etc. I don’t know if this has been explored?

It is quite strange how people assume and spread the notion that types are the best or the only place to put propositions. Why ignore the option of specifying propositions as separate invariants or postconditions, verified by proof, model c

With backslashes before newlines you can do “multiline oneliners” too.

Indeed, huge amounts of JavaScript that’s already out there does not come with a free software license. The FSF has been complaining about this for years. As for debugging, this is not a particularly hard or fundamental problem. It’s basica

Right, because when you distribute free software in binary form, you make sure to make the source code available with a copyright license disclaimer allowing redistribution. This applies exactly to WebAssembly software just as it does with

Doesn’t that reasoning also imply that GNU and Linux are awfully opaque and not free nor open, since they are typically distributed as binaries?

It's pretty close to how both Moggi and Wadler formulated it in their respective seminal papers which introduced monads for representing different notions of computations in functional languages.

Actually I/O in general is something that almost always comes from outside the language, so to speak. How do you define a file writing function in C? You have to appeal to some already existing magic syscall which actually cannot be fo

Another way to say it: a monad is a generic type with the sufficient API to do binding sequences like x <- fetch "foo" y <- frob x return (x + y) The meaning of binding/sequencing is decided by the part

Living in Rīga, I like drinking Latvian beer from Labietis, Malduguns, Nurme, Alķīmiķis, Hypnos, and a couple of other breweries. But I have to say that there are some Estonian breweries that are really world-class, especially Põhjala and P

Yeah, with this definition, complexity is something you notice as a working team, not something you can directly measure with syntactic criteria (of course syntactic criteria may correlate with the complexity).

I think Ousterhout’s pragmatic definition of complexity is the best one when discussing actual code bases: complexity is anything that makes the system hard to change, taking into account how often the relevant part needs to change.

The built-in ability to pattern match on data nested deeply within the application state (or the XML document) is radically powerful. Haskell, for example, has nothing like this. Eve is a really interesting language where you define global

I'm under the impression that CRDTs are somewhat limited by the lack of a clear way to combine several structures along with application-specific logic. In the 2012 paper "Logic and Lattices for Distributed Programming" (by C
