Thanks for your reply. One comment, though: > Ask them what they want, do what the want, cash the check. That person is very much not tech-savvy, and I consider my role to help them find out what they need (not "want"). (Al

While I personally detest the PI vacuum machine that Google has become, this is actually quite a reasonable idea I might use in this context. Thanks!

Interesting. I can see two (perhaps a bit unorthodox) uses for this. 1. As an Emacs-lite on some server I have access to, but don't want to install full Emacs on for some reasons. Currently I use Zile for that. And yes, I know about

Do you have any templates? Happy Ledger user here, but I'd be curious to learn how people do double-entry accounting in Excel.

May I recommend my ebook I linked to in another comment here ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39494344 )? You don't need a lot of commands to use Ledger successfully. 99% of the time, I only use one (`ledger bal`)

Shameless plug – last year I published a short ebook teaching the principles of personal accounting using Ledger: https://leanpub.com/personal-accounting-in-ledger . In fact, I've been using Ledger for about 10 years n

Good point, but if you start treating indentation as part of the syntax, we all know where it would lead...

Here's an interesting example: in the Whoniverse there is this concept of a "deadlock seal", which is kind of a lock which is almost impossible to break (it is (in)famously resistant even to sonic devices, which is a big deal

Where would you put Lua on this spectrum? Also, I do not find Lisp unreadable - you train your brain to ignore the parens and look at the indentation instead pretty quickly. And you can always tell Emacs to gray out the parens if you reall

It is. A piece of trivia: AFAIR, you say SUM 2 3 in Logo to add two numbers, but [SUM 2 3 4] to add more. (Though I learned Logo more than three decades ago, so I might be mistaken.)

You're right, but this is a different problem. Often people like doing certain things, but have trouble getting to them. I love boardgames, and I'd love to introduce my kids to some of my favorite games, but I need to set up the

Nice try, but the problem with this is that typography is _really_ complex. For example, there is a rule in English typography (I'm not sure if it's often used today though) that when you have a quotation spanning several paragra
